Defensive game plan becoming obvious

Our defense played very well and my hats off to them on the game. They picked up our blitzes it seemed like a majority of the time. I'm glad that we opened up the play book a little bit and took Texas by surprise. You know damn well they weren't even considering either of our two "trick" plays!!!! Octavien was an animal and I can't wait to see him back on the field next week. Brandenberg put some big hits on some receivers so that should add to the tunnel walk in a few weeks!!! :thumbs

Yep our goaline D especially did a superb job :clap

I loved how the defense played yesterday, but it still and always will drive me crazy that the defensive backs don't know where the ball is and get burned because of that.

There were several plays yesterday, including the long TD pass, where the secondary got beat because they didn't know the ball was coming. It'd be tough to convince me the NU technique is the best way to play man-to-man pass defense. I'd be interested to hear what others say.

If we had better corners and safeties, then it would be great to have them turn back for the ball. But it is one of those things that is easier said than done to turn back for the ball at the right moment and not lose track of your reciever. When Pelini was here, he ran a cover two for the most part which allowed the corners to turn back for the ball because they knew that they had safety help over the top plus the safeties were always deep moving forward looking at the ball and not running with their back to the ball like our corners are this year.

I heard Deion Sanders say that turning for a ball was one of the toughest things to learn as a corner in man coverage. He would try to find settle clues from the reciever, like eyes getting big or just the movement of the eyes on where the ball would be coming in at, to know when to turn for the ball. Now Deion is a hell of an athlete and one of the best corners to ever play the game, and he mentions it as a very hard skill to master. So like I said, it is easier said than done to just turn for the ball.

BLITZ......but please stop sending Ruud. He is so timid, always shying away from contact. Not only do I think Octavian should be in more, not always because I think Ruud plays a real good pass D, but Brandenburgh needs to play more and slowly, he is.

And BLITZ some more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The loss of Bowman has hurt not only the coverage but the ability to get to the QB. The QB's are able to get the ball off quiker because of the weakness at Corner on both sides. When you have just one corner that can man up with anyone in the country, you can get a lot more done. Especialy with your blitzes.
