Columbia, SC -- A Columbia woman and her sister had to go to the hospital after a bartender mistakenly dipped their martini glasses in a cleaner used to clean the fryer.
The bartender at Doc's Gumbo Grille across from the Statehouse ran out of sugar Saturday night and asked a dishwasher that speaks mainly Spanish for more. Owner Doug Goolsby says the employee gave the bartender a box containing a white substance that looked like sugar, but was cleaner.
Goolsby says the cleaner has been moved to the basement.
Forty-two-year-old Rita Hammond was in Palmetto Health Richland hospital yesterday, in good condition.
Her sister, 43-year-old Sandy Couillard, was released from the hospital Sunday.
Police and state health officials are investigating, although they say it appears to be an accident.
