Didn't realize this about the OT play call

I have no problem with the play call and the receiver was wide open in the end zone. I was just absolutely shocked when it fell so short. It really wasn't even that far of a throw.
It was probably a 40 yard throw. Which he can make, but he never set his feet. He made a similar throw first quarter that was maybe 10 or 15 yards shorter where he set his feet, he put that thing on the money.

From what I can tell, it looked like Tommy was thinking run, but saw Allen as he was nearing the LOS, so he ran to the side to stay behind it as he let the ball go, thus the short-arm. No doubt, if he was able to set his feet and follow through, it's 6 pts.

The play call was fine it was a badly under thrown ball that I am sure he wishes he had back. I really like the fact that Riley really liked the call, but it didn't work out. Can't go backwords only forward. On to S. Miss and getting better.

I would've liked to have had our playmakers in there if we were going to take a shot at the end zone on that first play.

By that comment about Tommy not getting through his progression, I'm thinking the play didn't develop like they wanted and was actually never intended to be the home run ball. Maybe.....I could be wrong.

Tommy is playing incredibly, but no doubt he loved to take those shots still. Too bad that one didn't work out.

Pretty big difference TheSker in a coach explaining what happened on the play by saying Tommy didn't get through the progression, versus a HC that never seemed to have an explanation for anything other than "the players didn't execute" for five years. Didn't sound like Riley was blaming anybody.
Correct. And one of Tommy's down sides is seemly always looking for the home run instead of the first down and continuation of the drive. Allen was wide open, though.
Yea. Tommy is improving in that aspect though too. Allen was open. What a bummer to fight back that far and have that ball just come out a little short.
These kids are learning some hard lessons this year. Every single thing you do out there counts. Everything.

It is a little dumbfounding not to have Westerkamp, Reilly, or Morgan on the field following a good break at the end of regulation.

As far as the play call itself, I didn't hate it. Tommy just made a poor throw on the run, instead of setting himself. It was picked off by a DB who was 18 yards in front of Taariq when the ball was thrown.

"but did we ever run a successful play action out of "I" formation?"

Yes... It was called the Devany Osborne era when we actually played "Nebraska Cornhusker Football" and this era produced 5 national titles. For all you 20 somethings who want to see what this actually looked like go to youtube or perhaps schedule a sitdown in the film room with Barry Alvarez.

TA should've just tucked and run, but somehow he under threw it and not quite sure how that happened. The rcvr in the endzone was fairly open, but he needed to put some air under it. Unfortunate pick, nonetheless. It happens.
