Assessing the talent: He had a dozen sacks and close to 100 tackles. He’ll need to work at the weights and improve his grades a little bit. He’s best as a stand up Defensive end where he can rush hard and fast against an OT.

Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 5% Although this is Cosgrove country, Blake has made an impact on him so far. Nebraska will be challenged hard from Mizzouri and Oklahoma. Expect Iowa to give a good effort also. With Blake, though, anything is possible.

He said that he liked the way that Oklahoma and Nebraska approached him and how he will have a chance to play for a national title. He wants to play for a big time program, and Mizzou doesn't fit the mold.

Vashon senior keeps options open for now

Vashon senior Jerry Brown orally committed to the University of Illinois in late June, but he probably won't solidify that commitment for a couple of months.

"It's basically a soft commitment," Brown said.

A 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive end and tight end, Brown has set up four official visits and is considering a fifth trip. He will visit Nebraska on Oct. 29 when the Cornhuskers play Oklahoma, will visit Oklahoma on Nov. 26 when the Sooners host Oklahoma State, and will visit Illinois on Dec. 3 and Missouri on Dec. 10.

"I just need to look around and make sure I'm not missing out on anything at any other schools," said Brown, who also is considering a trip to Michigan State.

The Vashon senior said he will make an unofficial visit to Missouri this weekend when the Tigers host Texas. Missouri already has two former Wolverines - wide receivers William Franklin and Arnold Britt - on its roster.

Another factor in Brown's recruitment could be Webster Groves linebacker Adrian Clayborn. The two senior prospects are being recruited by many of the same schools and have been talking about the process. Brown said he would like to go to a school where he knows someone from St. Louis.

Brown was a preseason All-Metro selection this fall after making 78 tackles, including nine for lost yardage. He also had two catches for 51 yards and scored one touchdown last season. He racked up 12 sacks as a junior.

Brown said he'll probably decide on a college following his trip to Columbia on Dec. 10. Oral commitments are non-binding. High school seniors can sign binding letters of intent beginning Feb. 1.
