Do we need tempered enthusiasm?

Look, I'm as excited as anyone over this win today, but should our enthusiasm over this win be tempered? Not to discount FAU, but they're not a perennial powerhouse.

I'm with coach.....I'll celebrate tonight.

Tonight was an awesome win.

We just have a ton of work to do defensively before we get to the Va Tech game, and into conference play.

The 3 points given up is nice, but with the offensive yardage that was piled up on us, teams that are good are going to convert those drives as opposed to getting worse around the goalline.

No doubt Pelini will get it fixed.

Yeah, they piled up some yards on us, and we had some miscues. That was OK against a program that didn't exist 10 years ago, but other teams will pounce on the same mistakes and make us pay.

Still, a terrific win. Look forward to next week.

I hope no one thinks I'm trying to rain on our parade. After watching the Huskers for over 30 years, one thing I have learned is temperance.

I agree that the yardage is a little concerning, but sometimes I think we all get caught up in the stats a little bit too much. Having said that Bo and Co. know what the problems are and will get it fixed by the time we meet VTech and begin conference play there after.

I hear ya man, and I agree. 358 does seem like quite a bit, but I don't think it's that big of a deal. Let's say VT, TT, OU, etc will be "twice" or "three times" as hard of an opponent as FAU...well, that doesn't mean our defense will give up 1,000 yards to them.

If statistics were proportional and absolute, I'd be worried. I have a feeling we'll be decent defensively. Not great, but probably around 300-400 yards per game.

As long as no one is calling National Championships and stuff, I think its great to be enthused about this win. No matter what. Something about 32 losses in the past 7 years helps me enjoy every win as much as I can.

It's hard to argue that...Point well made.

Its hard to argue a 49-3 win . The thing that just thrills me is how well some of the youngsters played tonight.

The future is brite.

Why can't we get set on the D line sooner? A fast tempo offense will give us fits if we don't get this problem fixed. I can tell you this, if we were playing Mizzery tonight it wouldn't of been pretty. I hope we can shore these problems up, I'm sure Bo and company will have this fixed by conference play.

Talk to me after the VT game-at that point I might start getting excited.

As for now, so far so good-nice warm up game.

Too tired to give my 2 cents right now, plus something happened at the Hylander that required someone to be taken to the hospital. Crazy kids, celebrating the first win of the season.

I will say this though, there were alot of things that I liked, and a few things that i did not like.

When our defense is on the field more we are going to give up more yards.. If we elminate the stupid penalties (ie the roughing the passer being the biggest imo) they don't have the 2nd chance at all those yards.... 352 yards is not that many to give up, especially to a team who's fans thought they would be able to throw the ball all over the place on us.. I was relatively thrilled with the way the defense played, considering FAU had the ball just over 32 minutes of the game... Not exactly something we were seeing when we were playing well on defense last year... I think they moved the ball on the ground a bit to easy, but the D seemed to lax up a little bit and then when they needed to step up, they did. It's hard to argue with a 49-3 win like others said above. But I think it was good for a season opener.. obviously room for improvement and hopefully we'll see some of that next week... Did anyone see that Arkansas St put up 61? Granted yea it's against mississippi valley state but that's still a lot of points to put up, and they ran for 358 yards.. So maybe that'll be a chance for us to shut down the run.

While it was just FAU, only giving up 3 points to an opponent who pretty much everyone figured would hang two or three TDs on us is pretty good. Remembering a similar caliber team of Ball St a couple years back makes this feel much better.
