In the past I would've wanted to see those type of non-con games.  Especially during the Big 12 days because there were the same 6 conf games and it got stale and boring.  I couldn't get hyped for playing Kansas, Iowa State, Colorado, K-State......because they had some awful teams during the Pelini years by that time.  Sure, occasionally they were good but that was rare. And then you toss in Baylor who was awful and crappy... and when Texas A&M was down or a Tech team into the mix that always beat us.

Fast forward to today, I don't mind playing some warm up games before we get into the Big Ten season.  In fact, it might even do us some good.  This conference is now loaded, and that excites me.

If we were playing Rutgers, Indiana, NW, MSU, Maryland and Purdue every week I might go fishing instead and quietly listen to the game on my mobile phone app.  Don't mind catching a good call on the radio and some good fish for frying, but don't expect me to watch it and get excited about those matchups.

And that is why the Big Ten has been great by incorporating the former 4 Pac12 schools.  Those programs are bringing some good ball into the league, and that excites me.

While the games are fun, Nebraska Football is in desperate need of wins. I'm not sure playing Tennessee and Oklahoma is the right choice for a Football program that has experienced a decade of ineptitude.

Realistically, Nebraska needs to strategically play non conference opponents in California and Texas to help with recruiting. Scheduling challenging but winnable games against Houston, SMU, TCU or California schools is better than playing talented teams that don't help your recruiting apparatus and will likely beat Nebraska.

Offseason stuff...

Speaking of Oklahoma, they hired 29 yr-old OC & QB Coach Ben Arbuckle from Wash State.  He installed an incredible offense at Western KY and then Wazzou.

He will get OU's offense going again in the SEC.

And recently, his QB followed him.  WSU QB John Mateer transfered to OU.  He's a RSoph with 2 years to play.  Had nearly 4000 yeards (pass/run) and 44 TDs.

I've been watching Mateer all year.  Because he fascinates me, and reminds me of Eric Crouch.  Or if Crouch was playing QB in today's era.

You got to watch these highlights (when you have 10 minutes).  The likeness is canny.  It's almost hard not to imagine this kid isn't Crouch or Crouch-like.

Keep an eye out on OU this year and this QB.  Good for them.  I'm glad we don't play them.  Mateer is from Texas by the way.  Little Elm - about 20 minutes from me.

I also suppose that age plays a role in how people feel about Oklahoma.  If you are under 40, you probably don't care as much.
Being on the older side of that demographic I wouldn't mind keeping a series with OU going and TN also. Hopefully Rhule has the team actually take a big jump forward next season so the program is back on track in 2026. Being not of the participation ribbon generation I prefer the better competition.

Agree 100%

I'm an old guy that thinks playing a hard non conference schedule is a bad idea in today's college football.   Yes, it can be a measuring stick, and a lot of fun for fans,  but most of the teams you are competing for playoff spots with already play a lighter schedule.(SEC)  Just doesn't make sense to make our already more difficult schedule even harder if the real goal is a playoff spot.
