that any press is good press. We are getting an awful a lot of attention because of the last play. ESPN went over the play again today on their college pre game show before the Ga Tech game. Recruits and fans are watching and seeing the NU game as the lead story.

it cant be bad,

they also played 3 calls for the last play on ESPN radio today. Tirico/Herbstreet's, UM's radio broadcast, and NU's radio broadcast.

If people want to disect the last play over and over again, let them.

Many people are not as "in tuned" to the rules of CF nor would a young 17 or 18 year old be so inclined to pursue the rules as we have done in a thread.

What they see is an impressive up and coming young team "rising from the ashes like a phoenix." (Thanks Lee Corso) :thumbs

The Nebraska win is huge for the university, and more so for the football program.

This is two games in a row Nebraska has been an average two touchdown underdog and won. That's gotta say something for what's happening in Lincoln.

As I type "Mayhem at the Alamo Bowl" to be covered at half on ESPN. Lou Holtz will tell us if our program is going up or down. Great. :dumdum

Yeah I just heard Lou Holtz say that, lol. MAN I can't wait to hear what he has to say about us... I mean I just respect his opinion so much! :sarcasm

And as far as the press thing... yes the press is great for us. I mean the fact is that Nebraska beat Michigan. If somehow they think that last play screwed Michigan and they should have won... well Nebraska still played at the level of a team that handed Penn State its' only loss this season. That alone should show that we're on the rise... not to mention that we actually DID when the game :P

I know last night the Husker game was the lead story both times, I guess, if there is a downfall they only showed the one play, Nunn catching the pass then they go back to the lateral play

heard that too. gee, what are the chances he thinks we're up. its not like this was a team with a bunch of young players with great momentum heading into next season.

that would be nice, if they'd mention any of that. but so far, only a couple oddball plays have gotten any attention. and Nebraska didn't "play up" to their level- Michigan simply got screwed by the refs and didn't play well anway. that's ESPN's post-game version of it. and unless recruits actually saw the game for themselves, that's the version they'll be force-fed.

maybe any news is good news but frankly i think it takes away from the REST of the game and how Nebraska played.

On SportsCenter last night, they didn't even show the passing TDs! it was only the highlights of the refs and Steve Levy's twisted interpretations. the way they are spinning this, Nebraska didn't deserve to win because they didn't do anything to win. Michigan simply lost. The plays with Ross, Taylor, the WRs-- if they even get into the highlight reels they are an afterthought!

IMO that last play unfortunately is overshadowing what Nebraska did the rest of the 59 minutes and 58 seconds of the game.

I watched the game again today since I taped it on my DVR (yeah I got problems) :dumdum and I got goosebumps from seeing so many red shirts in the stands. It was awesome way to go Husker faithful that's how a team travels! It was like homefield advantage! :clap

Holtz actually gave Callahan a little pat on the back, and Mark May attributed it to the Michigan coaching staff not working hard enough. It can't possibly be the fact that NU's players and coaches wanted it more, came prepared, and did what they had to do to win the game. That's just crazy talk.

also big talk of how Rhett Bomar of OU may lead them to a great win against Oregon...hell i will take Taylor anyday against Bomar....Bomar has shown me very little this year..........no cerdit for Taylor's 3 TD passes or standing in the pocket taking hits, wow these guys must have been drinking beer with Lushberger, except for the last 2 minutes of the game! :rollin

and UM wonders why Iowa got chosen for the Blockbuster bowl and UM got the Alamo Bowl.

here is a hint for all of you UM fans out there that had better things to do then to travel to a midweek bowl game against a lessor opponent.

YOU LOST

follow your team through thick or thin, show everybody out there that you will spend the money, and quit whinning.

Bowl games are all about the money. each of them have directors that have to answer to the communities that the bowl game is located, along with the Corp. sponsers. If the have a choice in team A (fans follow team and spend money) or team B (fans dont follow or spend alot of money) which team is going to be picked.

Some thoughts:

1) Every body and their sister who loves college football watched the game live. So, the ESPN followup doesn't really impact.

2) ESPN is a news / commentary station, meaning that they go after what thrilling, not necessarily emphasizing the "meat.

3) Every recruit has a lot of savvy concerning the end of the game. After all, they have played the game for years. They will rmember one thing, we won.

4) The color commentary on the ESPN game broadcast was very complementry of Callahan and what he is doing. The only mistake outsiders make repeatedly is that we had an option offense for over 40 yrs, when in fact Devaney insituted the multi-option pro-set in the early '70s, because he failed to go to a bowl for 2 yrs. (sound familiar!)

5) As bluetoes (UM threader) has so eloquently stated, the officials were not the difference. The turnovers by UM in the 4th qtr were due to the Husker pressure, not the officiating.

6) How could any ref call NU for running on the field at the end, when the UM players and coaches did, as well. They didn't score on the last play, because they didn't get to the end zone. Two huskers took the runner down-period. No CA/Stanford repeat here. Even if the other officials were in the tunnel, the field judge stayed with the play to the end.

It can't possibly be the fact that NU's players and coaches wanted it more
On the ESPNews station on sirius radio they were saying as much. and also noted that it could be Oklahoma's advantage vs Oregon.

Can't be bad. We won the game. Yea, the last play was weird and both teams could have been flagged for having players and coaches on the field. It doesn't matter that there were more from the NU sidelines. I don't think there are more severe penalties for shear number of non-participants on the field.

ESPN is ESPN. It's possible to comment about sporting events without being a douche, but apparently that's lost on a lot of em.
