Does Spurrier hold a grudge from the ’96 Fiesta Bowl beatdown?

...and Nebraska has never won the Big Ten....oh and to be honest the only numbers that really matter in this came out of one night in October...48-17.
Okay Badgerfan, you asked me to be honest so I will be honest. In this entire arguement I never even once thought about that game. Congratulations. It was awesome. But that is not what really matters. What really matters is national championships.

Oh I missed the part where you guys got a bid to the Rose Bowl because of your NC's. Good point. That is what really matters. Thanks for keeping me grounded.

You can say the same things about Nebraska, with the talent we have now and recruiting disadvantages, we may only be an 11 or 12 win team.

Your always right about these things? Okay, I believe you...

How come the first time Ive even heard the term MNC is on this board if nobody except "fans of teams that have never won it" uses the term? Nebraska fans on this board use the term all the time, not just me or Badgerfan. Deal with it.
First, you should, because it's true.

Second, just because people use the term does not make it accurate. It is not mythical. It is actual. The champion is chosen and the title is awarded. As I said, you don't have to like the way it is decided, but it exists.
Then you must give credit to Michigan for their share of the NC in '97 if it is actual. They were undefeated, also.

Que: Nebraska would kill Michigan even though we actually have no idea who would win that game because they never played argument.

Que: Nebraska option starts thread titled,"Nebraska 97 vs. Michigan 97, who would win?"

Well, I was not really trying to take that one away from Michigan...I was simply pointing out that we won it that year (too I guess).

Puh-leeeze don't bring Nebraska option into this.

Well thats the point of MNC because until we get a system that truly, without a doubt, declares a NC, there will always be people that say they did not truly deserve it. You can't have two NC's in one season if it is truly the National Champion. It is not or should not be National Champion(s). 2001, if we would have beat Miami, there would have been people saying we did not deserve it and the BCS is rigged. This year, Alabama vs. OSU debate. Even if Alabama beats LSU, people will claim there is no true champion because they split this season. I don't know if a playoff will work out the kinks or a completely different system, but until there is no doubt who is #1, it will be MNC.

Seriously, have fun in that Rose Bowl. I guess that is a big deal for someone who never won the National Championship. I was always happy when we had to settle for the Orange Bowl and a Big 8/12 title...I guess. Sure it's a nice consolation prize. But, I sure was a lot happier when we played for the National Championship (`65, `70, `71, `81, `83, `93, `94, `95, `97, `01) particularly when we won it. So how did it work out for Wisconsin or South Carolina the last time they played for the National title again?

Like I said, you don't have to like the way it is decided...but it exists. I know your argument for why you don't like the way they decide it, but it still exists. Look up the meaning of the word mythical. That word does not apply no matter how much you want it to.

All those National Titles and you still have to run from the Conference you supposedly dominated. Tisk tisk.

Wow!!! Sometimes, as impressed as I already am with Nebraska's accomplishments, I see it written out and I am even more amazed. NU has played for the National Championship 20% of the time in the last 50 years, and 25% of the time in the last 20 years. WOW!!!

And, I am so impressed with my own posts, that I am now just ignoring what anyone else says. I will be content to just comment on what I have said. Nobody else is making much sense anyway.

After reading all that, I do agree that alot of NU fans bring up their past to make you feel inferior- we are South Carolina fans. We realize our team sucks historically. Bad. We dont care about history for those obvious reasons. Bottom line is the present trumps history all day. It's like Clemson fans always bringing up the all-time record after we dominated them 3 years in a row. We are building something at S.Carolina and breaking records every game these days and I love it. I personally would take making history right now over reminiscing about great accomplishments any day. I think it's a pretty unique and cool situation that we are in as Carolina fans right now and I wouldn't trade it. GO c$%ks!!!
