Dominance is for warriors

I'm a former T-Bird, but a little younger than you guys from what it sounds like. I remember the Wall of Champions in the school, I think Clester and Strick were both up there about 6 or 7 times each for all the sports that they played. When Strick was a 9th grader at Logan Fontenelle (back when it was 7-8-9) he would get a ride up to West everyday for varsity basketball practice...and he was a starter! He was also drafted by the Marlins out of high school.
T-Bird eh? I used to live right up the hill from West. I went back a few years ago and now I noticed they have two swimming pools! The Wall of Champions I bet has grown. When I went there the only big name we had at the time was Mark Traynowicz.

Artis Garris was the s^!t, what ever happened to him?? Didnt he go to ISU??

Strick and Clester were two of the best athletes of their time in NE high school. Honestly, there were a ton of really good football players that came from this state during that time period. Alot of good athletes period. Many played Div I football and played in the NFL, a few played B-Ball, quite a few either played Div I baseball, or signed pro contracts.

Heck, even guys like Todd Doxson (M. North) who didnt play FB at NU (ISU) ended up in the NFL.

On a side note, I went to Jr High in Omaha with a guy who is now one of the best soccer :rickjames players in the MSL.

Thats awesome. Pretty cool to see a couple of my buddies & hear their names announced with a team that many believe is the greatest CF team ever. Kinda surreal, I know it is for them too.
BTW, if anyone is in need of any Husker videos, including the 95 highlight or any Bowl games, I also run Huskervideos.com, and proceeds help support this site. I havent had time to update it much lately though, so if you need a vid that isnt listed just let me know and I'll hook you up.  I get them through Husker Vision so theyre all authentic & brand new.
Was looking to get the 1995 fiesta bowl game on dvd for a friend of mine for x-mas since he has been wanting one ever since he began watching the huskers. He's a poor college kid, so i thought it would be a nice x-mas present.
I can get this for you for $20 + shipping. I'll send you a PM to work out shipping/billing if you're interested.

Anyone else just PM me the video youre looking for and I'll check with Husker Vision.

Thanks for supporting the board.

Yep Artis went to ISU for a couple yrs, but if I remember correctly had academic & other probs so left for a smaller school - which never materialized into anything. Such a shame though, b/c yes he was an incredible football player - was similar in more ways than one to Troy Davis, both the good & the bad.

Yep, and this only added to his lore. A 9th grade kid dominating on the varsity level was unprecedented during those times. Just one correction though, Im pretty sure Strick went to Mission, instead of Logan. Im a Logan alum so wish we could take credit for the phenom - also wish he wouldve stayed home & went to East, but West was a new school at the time and was drawing alot of attention & athletes for it's facilities.

Actually Bellevue West was open before Strick was born. He went to Logan Fontenelle as well. He lived behind the Burger King over by the base housing.

Thanks for the correction. Hmm, not sure why I thought he went to mission - oh well, Logan was the better school anyway. :thumbs

And I guess I meant to say West was "relatively" new, especially compared to East. I just remembered they seemed to have new facilities popping up every year in the early 90's - so most of the school was new. And out of curiousity I checked wikipedia & found that it says West was completed in '77 - but I suppose they couldve still had the doors open to a limited # in the early 70's.

Okay I digress, as Im sure people are wondering how the hell this relates to husker football by now - but dont forget that Strick did practice at least ONE time with the football team. So there you go. ;)

Next week: Great athletes in Creighton Prep history.

:cheers
