Downing and Carriker..

well Northern Colorado got Scott Downing and now Carriker is thinking about going pro a year early? These two loses, especially Carriker's would be rather significant, probably why we continue to seek/recruit players for the D side of the ball, knowing that Carriker might leave early. If he has a big game against UM , IMHO he will be gone.

he said there is a 90% chance, unless he could be assured he would go in the 1st round......so sounds like he will be back, but i believe it depends how well he plays against UM......he may get excited and make the leap

I dont see him going in the first round. He has had 2 years plagued by injuries and 1 year of great football. If he left early I see him getting selected in the late 2nd round or early 3rd.

If he comes back and has another year like this year then I see him moving up to the mid to late 1st.

A lot would have to do with how he performs at the combine, assuming he's invited. With the year he's had, coupled with some out-of-sight numbers, I could see him moving up to the first round. Yeah, injuries would be a concern, but it's amazing how teams can be dazzled by workout numbers...

Not sure if Carriker is a 1st rounder, yet. He'd be best to stay one more year. :thumbs

As far as Downing, good luck, but Im sure a replacement wont be hard to find.

for the teams sake i hope he comes back for another year. plus i feel that it will help him more in the development for the next level.

but what ever he decides i will wish him well.

If carriker wanted the alamo bowl game to decide wether he was going pro or not...I would have to say he needs to stay another year...showed how good he was(3 man rush almost sacks henne at the end), but the this team is fired up going into next year already and I think him leading the team next year would be huge for us...

What were the final numbers on him? I go the feeling the

"pro type" lineman UM had neutralized him a bit. COuld be wrong. I don't remember much from the game, but the final score.

I rememeber one particular play where Carriker stung out a stretch play all the way to just short of the sideline on the open side of the field and than made a one handed tackle. The most impressive part is that he was riding their tackle and had no pursuit from the backside, which means he took away the cutback AND took his blocker far enough laterally to make the tackle twenty yards to his left. That was one impressive play.

just looked on huskers.com what a weak game carriker had in stats...one tackle total and a pass breakup is all it says he had, but I remember seeing at least one qb hurry, the one at the end of course...
