Dr Tom--Big 12 exit fee, being full share member of Big 10

Not saying this isn't true, but Jack Mitchell isn't exactly a trusted source on news like this.

EDIT - not to mention that UNL has been accepted as a full member of the CIC beginning July 1, 2011. It would be surprising that the Big 10 wouldn't bring us in as a fully vested member from the get-go.

As for the fee, while I think there are grounds for Nebraska to pay nothing, I can see us paying a reduced fee just to cut ties and be done with it.

Exactly. We are supposed to be a full member in July 2011 like Knapplc said. There is no way we wouldn't be a full time membember til 2017. Doesn't make sense for what has been said and would be a bad deal for Nebraska financially.

I'd like a second source for this, but I haven't found one despite checking every 30 minutes or so since this was posted.

You would think Tom and Delaney would have discussed this before it being announced that NU is joining the BigTen. I just cant see Tom or Pearlman jumping to the BigTen without knowing the time table on becoming a full time member, having to wait 6 years to become a fulltime member is ridiculous.

Im not buying into this source one bit.

Apparently, Delaney said that we would not earn any less than we would have in the Big 12, starting immediately. And the CIC and athletic revenue are not one in the same.

IDK if it is true or not, but the rumor is out there.

The reports from back when we joined the BigTen were that NU is immediately a full member of the BigTen Conference, but NOT a full equity member of the BigTen Network. The BigTen Network is a business venture between all the BigTen schools and Fox Sports, and NU will be vested over a period of years. I suspect that is what is being thrown around. The BigTen guaranteed NU would make at least as much as they did in the B12, so we're not losing anything.

Everyone's pretty much aware of this, the point is that it would go along with being a "full" member of the Big 10 to be fully vested in everything, including the CIC.

That kid isn't eating McDonald's. He's promoting it. That's Grimace.

Harvey and Dr. Tom specifically mentioned that we wouldn't receive a full revenue distribution until a "later date", the ESPN\Big Ten contract runs through 2016, so 2017 makes a lot of sense. And they've never said they didn't think that we would have to pay something, they just said it would be innapropriate.

Like Harvey and Tom, I'm not saying that we won't have to pay anything, I'm saying I think there are grounds for Nebraska to pay nothing. And I know what they said about later dates, but I haven't been able to find anything concrete on it. If you find a link, be sure to share. I've been looking for something in print and can't find it.
