Dylan Raiola

We'll see if Raiola transfers somewhere else after all, but if he sticks with Oregon that kind of quashes the narrative that players are only interested in money and being "the guy," no?

i don't know...but has he signed or only committed so far? if he signed can he still enter the portal again?

To say it didn't play a part would be quite ignorant.

To say it did is incredibly naive.

There is not a landing spot in the portal where a portion of the fanbase won't be advocating for a different quarterback. You cannot throw an interception without having some hot take warriors wanting to yank you for your backup. This notion that Husker fans are somehow too feckless and demanding has got to be retired. Dylan enjoyed tons of love while he was here. The loudest people on sports message boards aren't the general public or the coaches.

Should coaches ensure that the back-up quarterback is shitty enough that the high priced portal addition doesn't feel threatened? There was zero chance TJ Lateef starts if a healthy Raiola returns.

If Dylan Raiola felt threatened because fans and coaches were intrigued by TJ Lateef's skill set, he's a lousy competitor who doesn't deserve the job. Of course that's not what happened. Dylan was super supportive of TJ and probably felt better about Lateef doing a good if not great job as his fill-in because Dylan was already halfway out the door in his ongoing journey to be an NFL quarterback.

That Dylan didn't issue the traditional thank-you to the program and its fans is a d!(k move. Maybe all the poetry, and money, and his uncle, and those vows of team loyalty made it more difficult. Maybe it wouldn't have changed how fans felt one way or the other. Still a d!(k move.

I think he could always re-enter either way - but I also don't think it's a coincidence that his apparent willingness to sit behind Moore came out prior to his commitment. Supposedly Raiola's deal with Oregon has different amounts depending on whether Moore came back, and he agreed to it. Could always change his mind, but Moore coming back was at least known to be a possibility before he committed.

As a sample size of one, I mean I guess. Sort of.

He already got a lot of money. I think the Raiola's got concerned that he wasn't going to be showcased for the NFL on a high enough level at NU...which if true is in and of itself kind of about making the most amount of money possible.

There are two QBs currently on playoff teams who used transfers to raise their profiles; Caleb Williams and Bo Nix. Williams final USC team flamed out in a 7-5 season but the NFL didn't care. The rest of them:

Drake Maye: all three college seasons at North Carolina, 17-9 as a starter, never on a ranked team.

Josh Allen: one year at community college, three years at Wyoming.

Brock Purdy: Four years at Iowa State, his last year on a 7-6 team

Matt Stafford: All three college seasons at Georgia

Sam Darnold: All three college seasons at USC, including redshirt freshman

CJ Stroud: All three college seasons at Ohio State

Maybe transfer fever is about the NIL money. But if you've got NFL talent, the NFL will find you where you are.

You're making a few leaps here on points that I didn't make or defend. I simply said it would be ignorant to assume that fan sentiment didn't play a factor in his decision to leave. It wasn't the only factor and may not even be in the top 5 or 10 reasons Dylan and his family looked elsewhere. But, as both Dana & Rhule alluded to, there was a shift after that UCLA game where impressions changed.

D!(K move? That could apply to the Clemson RB who burned bridges on his way out. Or the McCaffrey family ripping into the coaches/program after Luke was asked to change positions (which he ultimately did at Rice). Or Nico Iamaleava demanding more money from Tennessee last spring. Or Leavitt searching for his next school mid-season. IMO, our former QB not penning a good-bye thank-you is far from a d!(k move.

Let's boil this down to the basics... a 20 year old kid left our school and went to another. He did so quietly and has not done anything to disparage the program, the coaches, or the fans since. Would it be nice to have some praise thrown on our program? Sure. Would it change anything on the field or within the program? Nope.

TLDR: He gone, move on.

Who said multiple people can't be dicks at the same time?
