Benning just said that 9 wins should probably have Riley in consideration for coach of the year. Not to be celebrated as a huge accomplishment but would be good considering what we have going on.

Right now the poll her is saying 10 wins is most likely with 9 next.

We have five that are basically locks (Arkansas State, Northern Illinois, Rutgers, Illinois and Purdue) plus two more overwhelming favorites (Northwestern and Minnesota). Then there are three coin flips (Oregon, Wisconsin and Iowa) and two overwhelming underdogs (Ohio State and Penn State).

So that would say 8-9 depending on how the coin flips fall. Slight disconnect between that and the overall record poll.

Nebraska Cornhuskers (OVER 6 wins)

Few coaches in recent memory got more production out of less talent than Mike Riley did at Oregon State. And with a young but talented team, this feels like the year he’ll surpass expectations in Lincoln.

After the loss of quarterback Tommy Armstrong, transfer Tanner Lee looks like a more than capable replacement. This young team should be helped by playing five of their first seven games at home. The road schedule is manageable, with winnable games against Purdue, Illinois and Minnesota. Nebraska probably won't hit the nine-win mark they reached last year, but seven seems more than realistic.

South Point Sportsbook has listed Nebraska as a 3-point favorite over the Hawkeyes in the two teams' regular season finale, but NU is a 4-point underdog at Oregon and a 8-point underdog to Wisconsin at home. The Ducks are merely a 1-point favorite at Wyoming, for a useful frame of reference.
