I am not in your profession but from your opinion is Menards sort of the most "user friendly" in terms of helping customers that don't know anything? That is always the vibe I got.

He's got the same s#!tty surface level understanding of economics he's always had. He's just always had JUST enough money that it hasn't mattered.

No, I get it and I have seen the link. But if other countries are "doing" it, doesn't that hurt them? The answer is, yes.
So, that means the thought process is that it will "hurt them" longer and they will break, right?
Or, is it just that everyone will hurt?

I’m curious on this answer too.
My “guess” is it will ultimately hamper the sales of tariffed imports by making them more expensive, thats the goal. So it guess the thought process is” if you are going to hurt my business, I’m hurting yours too.”

Right, I'm not an economist, but it's a retaliation to harm the businesses and customers of other countries, even though it's also harmful to your own consumers.
It's a lose-lose situation that only stupid leaders find themselves in. And, unfortunately for America, our leader is exceptionally stupid.

Yeah I mean your options are either to sit there and take it or respond in kind with retaliation.
Tariffs are dumb because you're effectively charging a penalty on imported goods to ostensibly support domestic manufacturing. The problem is if you charge a, let's say, 25% penalty on an imported good from Canada, Canada is simply going to charge 1.25x what they were charging before and will likely retaliate with an equivalent countermeasure.
There you have it, the brilliance of tariffs laid bare. They accomplish nothing other than the distort market prices to make things more expensive for everyone. Everybody loses.
My only hope is a wide enough swath of Americans are smart enough to realize Trump up and decided himself to raise prices on stuff. But I'm not holding out that much hope.

That’s exactly what it is. The only thing left out is it also, maybe primarily, hurts the consumers in the country levying tariffs. No company and no country will be the ones paying the tariffs. The ones that pay it are the ones that actually buy the product.
Tariffs may have made sense a long time ago, when we actually wanted and were able to keep manufacturing jobs in this country. Well guess what, places like China have lower standards for things like the environment, workers rights etc. They can make s#!t cheaper and fewer and fewer people in this country want factory type jobs. Compounding the problem will be removing a whole bunch of immigrants, legal or not, who flock to the few jobs of that type we still do have.
Basically Mr. Doesn’t Know his a$$ from a hole in ground just f#&%ed all of us. The only hope is it was all for show to gain some minor concessions in other areas so Pres Dips#!t can claim some victory and stop the tariffs before s#!t gets out of control. I know one thing, the price of something, everything going up 25%-50%-100% isn’t going to hurt the likes of Trump or Musk or the other rich oligarchs who will actually benefit from everything costing more.
I hope karma is real and I hope it’s a b!^@h. And I also hope it goes on long enough to get the fiscal attention of his brain dead followers. I can afford to pay extra for long enough to see a whole bunch of them turn on him. Can’t blame this idiocy on Biden no matter how he tries to spin it.
