Education

Chicago Teachers Union is trash.  I believe they are the ones that fought really hard to stay shut down after COVID because teachers liked staying home.
YES!

They were doing all they could to not go back.

Now, it sort of is a sticky situation because if you are a huge covid bro and mask lover, you sort of have to take their side BUT it was pretty clear that a lot of them just did not want to go back to the classroom.

I heard stories that some were even double dipping, teaching at another district while still teaching for CPS.

I did just get contacted by a Chicago Public School recruiter.   They have a list of 12 pronouns that I can pick from!

You can understand that COVID was something to take seriously....while also realizing this Union was just using it as an excuse to get paid and not teach.

Cleveland School district did the same thing.  They got the very first covid shots as a deal with the Ohio Governer to open.  They never opened during the 20-21 school year.  Not sure if they even opened the fall of 22.

It was amazing how in late March of 20-21 everyone was going to die and schools needed to be shut down...

Then parents were stuck with their kids 24/7 and it was totally okay for THEM to keep working remote but not teachers...no way...had to be back in the building WITH kids, HAD TO!  Ha.  3 months later.

I say this as a teacher that HATED virtual learning, I could not wait to get in the building.  But the irony was not lost on me.

Even still today, I see people REFUSING to go back into the office and when the company tries to make them do it, they flip the f#&% out.

We did a “hybrid” the fall of20-21.  That sucked!!!!

Basically “teach like normal” but wear a headset and also include the kids on Zoom…

Worked great in the shop!   :sarcasm

Hahaha!  That is what we did!

It was SHOCKING to discover how many of my students had "bad internet" and were unable to stay on Zoom for the entire class!

And I KNOW those kids had me on mute because I am f#&%ing hilarious and NONE of the kids on zoom would laugh at my jokes!

The interesting thing is our Superintendent took an online class from John Hopkins in May of 2020.  It was all about the latest info on Covid.  He figured that it was for Dr.'s but signed up anyway for this class.  He got in.  One of the main emphasis by the leading medical experts is that schools should open immediatley.  The data said covid was not effecting young people.  BUT, the mental helath crisis was going to be more detrimental to young people than covid ever would be.  We became the very first school in Ohio that announced we would be opening our doors in the fall.  Our superintendent got emails of praide from our parents, and death threats from the community.  He was called a harbinger of death and one person hope he and his whole family would die of covid.  I call him Harbinger of Death from time to time.

Great times!

We learned that online education for most sucks

There really wasn't any consensus in our world.

It was clear that remote learning was taking a toll on the students. Except for the already bullied and asocial, who considered Covid a blessing. Parents were taking Covid seriously.....but most wanted the kids back in school. Our Principal claimed the teachers and staff were split almost dead even; most hated online teaching, but a significant number did not want to be guinea pigs (many also had long commutes)

From early on, the science was on the side of letting kids resume life with some basic protections, but what school district wanted the risk of even a single kid dying of Covid and the lawsuit and outcry that would ensue? And of course they had to lure the teachers and staff back, first. All that being said, a school district in the same county just three miles from ours reopened earlier and broader.

For that matter, the "essential businesses" from the original shutdown showed a lot of flexibility, depending on where you were.

Lotta folks want to characterize the Covid response as if it was handed down as law by the CDC, but I saw a lotta people and entities totally winging it as it went along.

YES!  The threats from the crazy parents!  My principal would fill us all in on those!

The best part was this "all of sudden" excuse that if kids WERE NOT in school that they would suffer amazing long term side effects.  Even though, somehow they are able to make it through the super grueling 3 months off during the summer, I imagine each kid is just staring at pictures of their school during that time.

While clearly Covid was horrible, we all know that, the response to the education community was simply amazing.  We were turned into villains and guinea pigs in about a 3 month time frame.

Tobias and Jack who work at TD Ameritrade, well there is NO chance they could possibly work in the office, my god, the germs!

But a 65 year old kindergarten teacher...GET HER IN THE SCHOOL NOW!

Again, I hated online learning and could not wait to get back to school.  But I just wish the loser parents would have been honest.

"Okay, first off, we are sorry, we had no idea how annoying and needy our kids really are and THANK YOU for dealing with them all day.  But we just can't take it anymore, parents are not meant to be around their own kids 24/7, so please, please go back to the buildings...also, we don't know how to help with math once fractions start, we need you"

Oh, it has been a cluster f#&%.

So many people all thought, wow, I can work from home and my bosses should love it. Meanwhile, you call a company for someone and …..well, they work from home, here’s their number……………….nobody answers.

Then they cry when the boss says you’re coming back to the office.

Yeah…..everyone knows your scam.

My friends wife has a "remote" job, or it was, now I think they have to go in 1 day a week, which makes no sense to me, but my god, you would think they were torturing her.  The complaining!  In fact, she is thinking of taking a new job that is 50 miles away but, right now, still 100% remote.  Her hubby keeps telling her, look, they might not be remote forever and then you are stuck commuting 50 miles a day.

All my friends that "work" remote, have gotten much better at golf!

Yeah….and they are all very tanned, their lawns are immaculate, house is always clean and they all of a sudden belong to 4 more hobby clubs that meet multiple times a week.  Meanwhile, they still b!^@h about day care costs.

Try a coffee shop at 10:30. But, very few have laptops actually…..trying to act like they are working.

I recently fired a sales rep that worked from home. He kept bragging to me about his golf game…..meanwhile, his customers couldn’t get ahold of him.
