Did you watch Auburn in the regular season? They were also stupid lucky and could have easily been 7-5 or worse.Auburn hired an offensive guru who made SEC defenses look silly with his schemes. As far as I know we haven't changed our philosophies.Stupid lucky.......you mean kind of like Nebraska last year. Wyoming, Northwestern, and Penn State are all games I'd say Nebraska was pretty fortunate to win. Jussayin. Are double standards hard to explain?
Crap, now what can we argue about? Let's make fun of Landlord and Knapplc about things.I'll concur. That's pretty much the whole point. Purgatory. He aint good enough, but he aint bad enough either.Absolutely correct.I think they'll beg to disagree--"lower standards" and such. But re: the rest of the bold: I think that's the most frustrating part about BP's tenure here so far, he hasn't done anything on the field to earn a longer stay but he hasn't done on the field to earn a trip out of Lincoln either. A 12-2 season or even a 6-6 season would provide a clearer picture. It's not ridiculous at all. And there's nothing really wrong with having high expectations. I should make that clear. The problem arises when those expectations get in the way of perspective and you start axing coaches for the most absurd of reasons. We were spoiled in the 90's. Then we had one little ugly run to end '01, '02, '03 appeared to be heading back in the right direction. But it wasnt good enough. At least that's the perception. Now what we've had over the past 6 years isnt good enough. Obviously. No arguments about that. But in my opinion 9 and 10 whens is not even close to bad enough or reason enough to reset and start over. Regardless of how the losses or wins look. That's MY opinion. And that I think you've let your expections get in the way of perspective. No one's happy about where we are. But guys like me feel it's in the best interest to stay the course and keep trying to progress. Guys like you feel it's reason enough to start over. Neither is right. Niether is wrong. But neither is "insane" either. And Bo knew about them when he wanted the job in 03 and got it in 07. This is absolutely ridiculous. It's not really that insane. Tom Osborne himself has said this fanbase carries some insatiable expectations.I was more responding to the insane premise that too much is expected from BoI think Polo was taking my joke a bit too seriously. I made a wize-a$$ crack at Polo's intelligence which was nothing more than a joke and completely unrelated, and even that got spun into fire-Bo rhetoric. You sir are good.
I agree with this 100%. After the UCLA game/tapegate I really thought the wheels were going to come off. I was done with this staff, and ready for a change. But re: the rest of the bold: I think that's the most frustrating part about BP's tenure here so far, he hasn't done anything on the field to earn a longer stay but he hasn't done on the field to earn a trip out of Lincoln either. I don't think there's any way we've seen what rock bottom could be.I agree with this 100%. After the UCLA game/tapegate I really thought the wheels were going to come off. But, as I look back at the year (rewatching games) and reflecting on everything that happened, I think it was a "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger" situation. It is my belief, that 2013 was a rock bottom situation, and we're going to see an upward trend this year.
Well duh, 2007 or 2004 are examples of a real "rock bottom" situation.I don't think there's any way we've seen what rock bottom could be.I agree with this 100%. Although it's entirely possible we haven't seen the ceiling either.
I think this is pretty clear. And digging deeper, maybe it's the reason we seem to be in the rut we're currently in?I don't think there's any way we've seen what rock bottom could be.I agree with this 100%. I perhaps misread your statement, but Nebraska has had a decade of four losses or more like OU or USC. The last time there was less than four losses was 03.I think this is pretty clear. Think about this. Going back to the hiring of Devaney, the worst seasons we've experienced were in 2002 at 7-7, which was followed by a 10-3. Then in 2004 at 5-6, followed by 8-4 and 9-5. And then 2007 at 5-7 followed by 8-4, 10-4, x-4, x-4 and so on and so on. We've never experienced that near full decade of complete irrelevance and total dissarray to the tune of multiple and consecutive 3 and 4 loss seasons. Other programs like Oklahoma and Miami, USC have. Hence they had that reason to complete flip it upside down and go in a whole other direction. Granted we've fired and changed coaches, but has Nebraska actually done, or had reason to, completely change the way everything is done inside and out.
Well, I guess we say Callahan did and it didnt go so well. But I guess that leads to my thought that maybe we're still trying to hard to do things the "old way" so to speak. It still has not been "that bad" for consecutive seasons around here, which maybe has allowed some complacency to set in in places.
Thoughts? This is some that came to mind reading that one little comment.
Right, but that's not nearly as bad as the stretches that Bama, USC, OU, Miami, etc have had.I perhaps misread your statement, but Nebraska has had a decade of four losses or more like OU or USC. I agree w/ you. Bo Pelini is as close to the "old way" as you can get in today's coaching world. It's why he's thought of as such a good "fit" for Nebraska.Well, I guess we say Callahan did and it didnt go so well. Which is why-and this is the subjective side of me coming out. Even as pro-Bo, no one can argue that I can see both sides-it's still very possible that that doesnt make it the right fit.I agree w/ you. Yeah. Im talking more like OU 1994-98 disaster type scenariors. We really havent experienced anything close to that kind of drug-out-over-multiple-seasons type of horrid performance. Seriously, we're a point here or TD there from still making bowl games in THE 2 worst seasons this programs has suffered since the 1960's.I perhaps misread your statement, but Nebraska has had a decade of four losses or more like OU or USC. There was a 500 and two sub 500 seasons in there. We can quibble about how bad bad can be I guess but three plus losses every year since 2001 when it used to be unheard of was enough for the schools you mentioned and it should be here as well.Right, but that's not nearly as bad as the stretches that Bama, USC, OU, Miami, etc have had.I perhaps misread your statement, but Nebraska has had a decade of four losses or more like OU or USC. Right, which is why I get so persnickety when the "Bo resurrected this program from the ashes" line gets trotted out.Yeah. Im talking more like OU 1994-98 disaster type scenariors.
