the last non QB or RB to win the trophy was in 2024
In history, wide revievers 2, defensive backs 1, plus Hunter that you can't count twice.

In the past it was a rusher award because everyone ran. Now it's a QB award because everyone throws.

36 QB, 21 RBs, 17 half backs.

2 defensive ends won. In 1936 and 1949.

2 fullbacks in 1945 and 1969.

QBs have won 20 of the last 25 years. I think they have a significant leg up in the competition.

More than likely the years a QB doesn't win, they still come in a solid 2nd and 3rd in the voting.

The award has been a joke for a very long time. It’s been the best RB or QB on one of the best teams.

That is not what the award claims it is.

Barry Sanders was the last truly greatest player with no controversy or discussion to win the trophy. It’s a lobbying arm of monies.

When Suh didn’t win it, I actually started to laugh at the process/ceremony.

CMC coming up short to Derrick Henry was another example of poor voting.

Jason White won the trophy.
Troy Smith won it.
Geno Torreta won it.
Mark Ingram won it.
Chris Weinke won it.

I remember all these guys names but the weren’t the best players in all of college ball.

I thought T Frazier should have won one and I think A Green should have as well. Tommie won the games for his era and finished his reign as the most winning QB of his era ever.

Ahman Green – The Gilbert Brown Foundation
In 1997, Ahman Green's stats were exceptional, with 1,877 rushing yards on 278 carries for an average of 6.8 yards per carry. He scored a team-leading 22 touchdowns and had 105 receiving yards on 14 receptions. Green led the Huskers with 1,982 all-purpose yards and 132 points, and was a finalist for the Doak Walker Award.

Ahman was the greatest running back N ever had. And he stood in the shadow of L Phillips, who might have even been better than him. And I know the history of Craig, DuBose, Rozier, Brown, End Zone Jones, Davis, etc…

Ahman Green should have won the Heisman.

Problem for both Green and Frazier was that 'their coach was toooooo good' --he had created a machine. So Alfred Newman could have been QB or RB with the machine like OL and they would have gotten all of those yards or all of those wins. Tommie was no doubt the best QB of his era and that includes Charlie Ward before him and the Florida QB after him. Tommie was able to prove the point in the Fiesta Bowl.
Just think what Ahman's numbers would have been like if he played the full game every game. Most games he was resting in the 4 quarter if not before. But he followed Philips and people thought Philips was a thug therefore by association Green was to be docked accordingly.

I'd still say Frazier and Suh got tons of Heisman respect. Frazier's stats were very modest but he came in #2 on leadership and results. Defensive players almost never go that high, but Suh was #4, beating previous winner Tim Tebow and coming in just behind Colt McCoy, the QB he notoriously rag-dolled in the greatest single defensive performance in history.

But yeah, a journey through the Heisman lists shows a lot of totally forgettable names. Then you get to years like 2016 where Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson, and Saquon Barkley were all in the running. Patrick Mahomes had better numbers than any of them that year and received zero votes.

Frazier not winning was criminal...Suh not winning might have been even worse. Two mysteries to me!
