Enhancing the 'Memorial' at the Stadium

Memorial Stadium was named to memorialize Nebraska’s war dead, but there is little besides the name that accomplishes that goal, a Lincoln businessman maintains.

Richard Zierke expressed optimism over the response he’s received from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln about his proposal to place plaques on a stadium wall to honor fallen Nebraska soldiers.

Zierke and his friend Lincoln architect Kevin Clark met with UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green last week. The three walked around Memorial Stadium while discussing Zierke’s concept.

...

Several regents late last week said they hadn’t thought a lot about the proposal or would leave it to university administrators. Zierke proposed to have 93 plaques, one for each Nebraska county, naming the dead from each war.

So we now have threads that say we do too much military stuff at games. And now a thread that says it isnt enough.

Gotta love Merica 2016

There are a number of stadiums named Memorial. What do they do?

I'm not opposed to this, but I don't think it has to be done either.

May as well throw in we play My Country 'Tis Of The after Q1, America The Beautiful at half, and God Bless The USA after Q3.

Jokes aside, this seems like a fine idea to me.

Nebraska's Memorial Stadium was named to remember those who lost their lives in WWI. It's a lot better than being named after some lame corporate sponsor.

No argument from me - I'm simply asking what other Memorial Stadiums have done to honor their name.

EDIT: looks like there are at least 17 college "Memorial Stadiums"

Being a chicago Bears fan I don't remember too much that warranted the stadium being called Soldier field.. when they renovated the stadium they put in a nice memorial right inside the south gates with statues and some plaques throughout. Memorial stadium could do a mural or something along with plaques

This seems like a great idea to me. I hope they do it!

We should never forget the sacrifice of those who fell. Nor should we lose sight of the ugly wrath that is war, and what it robs from us.

So a bunch of college age guys (and girls) joined the military and got killed in some foreign land. Big deal. <<< Is THAT how we feel? No, it isn't how we feel. This is a great idea. Putting their names on the stadium is an incredibly small gesture of gratitude for the ultimate sacrifice these people made for our nation. /jmho
