ESPN: First Take with Pelini

Seriously. Did Bo do something to Howard during their playing days at Ohio St/Michigan? A late hit. Viscoius hit or something? Or does Desmond just have a jones for Bo because he played for Ohio St? Regardless, Desmond Howard has an obvious vandetta against Bo.
You really have to wonder, in private, if Bo called him out on some of that sh#t. You know Bo heard some of the things he said, and Bo seems like the kind of guy that would confront someone who had issue with him. Dez is a b!%(h.....
What did Dez say?
He just hammers Bo and his "sideline demeanor" every chance he gets. Most notable during a segment last season on Gameday-I think it was immediately following the Rutgers bball coach incident? Or maybe a different case. Regardless, when anything remotely close to sideline behavior is brought up, Desmond Howard uses it as a chance to take a shot at Bo. It causes me to truely believe that there is some long-term angst there from long ago.
Wow. Thanks for the info. I didn't know that until now. He's (Desmond) never really blew me away with his analysis anyways.
That was how he justified it too when fans called him out on it, I'm an analyst not a journalist...

I feel I have great knowledge when it comes to determining pro talent.
More or significantly less than Bo Pelini and employed NFL scouts?
If Bo has no doubt that Martinez will be an NFL QB then I would say yes, I just may. There have been several NFL teams that make awful draft picks year after year, yet are still paid the big bucks. Doesn't make them GOOD just because they have the position.

I'm also sure 99% of America would have though Michael Jordan was more than okay to run an NBA franchise --- Tell me how that is working out
I'll have to take Big Ern stance on this as well. Not just you Landlord, but many posters on this board seem to instantly play the "well are you paid millions of dollars to do the job" card. It's really a f'ing' lame argument. There are people who have vast knowledge in various fields who do not use that knowledge in their primary field of work. Hell, maybe they don't use it in any field of work. Some people go out of their way to study and learn things, investing time beyond what others would invest simply due to a thirst for knowledge or purely an interest in whatever the case may be. I also happen to pride myself on being an eye for talent and 9/10 times I am right about guys. What if I or Big Ern is a better scout than Bo? I'm also very good at what I do for a living. I'm also very good at a lot of other things, yet, I'm not being paid millions of dollars in any of these things. Nor are you or anybody else on this board that I am aware of.....so really drop that lame a$$ f'ing argument already.

Yes, I am a bit fired up and ready to go lately. It's getting close to that time of year. I still feel like I have 3-4 good plays left in me. FOOTBALL SEASON! HURRY UP!

I understand what you are saying Red. But I also understand LandLord.

My question is, do you think we have anyone on this board that is a good enough talent evaluator that an NFL team would hire on as a scout?

I personally don't believe so. But I've been wrong before.

This is like a completely different Bo Pelini. So much more relaxed, comfortable in his skin, in his role as Head Coach. He really looked the part.

No idea.....

I know many people don't like Matt Millen but the guy said one thing that really stuck with me and that I think is true. He said one thing successful coaches know how to do and do well is their ability to be able to assess talent. Talent that they either have already or that they are trying to acquire and once they identify it knowing what to do with that talent. I absolutely could not agree more with this. I'll never forget when Bill Callahan wanted to go with Sam Keller over Joe Ganz as his starting QB just as an example. Not beating my own drum here but I knew right away after seeing Ganz that it was clear who was the better QB and that Callahan was just another schmo who thought there was more talent and ability there than there really was. It was only because of injury that Ganz got his start and his chance.

I have to question if Bo really believes that anyway. Of course he's going to say it. What is he going to say, "nah, Taylor? QB in the NFL? That's laughable". If Taylor was on some other team I doubt Bo would take him seriously as an NFL QB prospect. Taylor is his guy, so of course he's going to try to get his name out there and do everything in his power to get him to the next level.

It sure would be a blast to give it a shot.

I understand what you are saying about people having knowledge in areas but that isn't what they get paid to do and I believe that is true. However, being on a message board more often than not a person is just going to toot their own horn, so to say. Therefore, nothing personal, but I am going to listen to what Bo Pelini, and his resume say, over someone who "stayed at a Holiday Inn express last night."

Pretty much what he said. I'm not saying you guys might not have a clue what you're talking about, because you may very well be right, but since I don't know and I don't know you I'll trust the people that have actually proven to know pretty well.

For the record, not to give myself any vain praise, but as far as quarterbacks going into the league go, I call 'em like I see 'em and I've been right quite a bit more often than I've been wrong. I wish I would save the things I say, because I predicted Russell Wilson to be a starter his rookie year when people were doubting whether he would even get drafted.

That said, I still maintain that Taylor will get a legitimate look and shot. I don't think he will ever start, but I think he will show enough ability and talent and potential to make a roster.

When people talk about him not being an NFL QB I always point to the fact that Colt McCoy was given every chance to be a pro QB.

In all fairness EZ McCoy was a pretty good passing QB in college. However Denard Robinson and Terelle Pryor were both given shots. Both of whom more resemble Martinez in their abilities and style of play so I'm not saying he for sure won't get any sort of shot.
