ESPN- Most Indispensable Players: Nebraska

I say Rex is the most indispensable player for a number of reasons, including his sheer likeability.

But one of the reasons for his success is having Taylor Martinez as quarterback, and an offensive system that treats Martinez/Burkhead as dual and nearly equal threats on every play-action snap. While some folks can't abide Taylor's 57% completion rate, the Huskers are a legitimate threat to pass, both short and deep, and that has benefitted the running game. If we announced our intent to simply ride Burkhead into the line 30 times a game, the numbers would get kinda ugly.

Last year Burkhead and Martinez developed a nice offensive chemistry, almost like a point guard and shooting guard in basketball. The coaches picked up on it and built plays around it. Or maybe it was the other way around. No reason to think they don't work even better together this year.

The fact that this is a tough in someways shows that we have not super stars or should I say "Suh per Stars" These guys really do need to click as a team because none have shown yet to be consistant game changer. Defense is a tough call when seeking standouts. In offense you have the Blue Chip Stock in Rex and Martinez is like the Tech Stock who may boom or bust it does make for tough call. I go with Rex based on last year as I see him as a more predicatble performer.

On defense Stafford will be our play maker. That is if he can limit the Asante (junior season play) like plays.

If it's Rex from last year then theres no doubt it's Rex... If T-Mart can improve in passing like he did from Frosh to Sophomore season then it's him....
