5. Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl: Nebraska vs. No. 21 Tennessee

Twenty years ago, this would have been a battle for the ages. Instead, the Cornhuskers get a chance to regain some positive momentum and hit the 10-win mark for the first since 2012. We’ll spare you the obvious “championship of life” jokes just this once.

Actually being #5 isn't too bad considering how well the B1G scored bowl games.

Here's a CBS article ranking all the bowl games. Kind of see a theme in the narratives....

16. Music City Bowl -- Nebraska vs. No. 21 Tennessee -- Dec. 30, 3:30 p.m.: For a few hours on a late December afternoon, two fan bases will descend upon the city of Nashville and live their greatest dream: pretending it's still the 90s.

We'll get a nice bump in the rankings if we win, beating an SEC school and all.

btw. We beat five bowl teams this year. (And Oregon didn't make a bowl, or it would've been six.) So there's that.

I'm thinking that the conference has at least six favorites in those games (without figuring in home field advantage as it may apply). With that said, bowl season* is always surprising and will continue to be so long as there's so little meaningful out-of-conference play during the regular season.

* - This is the traditional bowl season. Maybe there will be a day soon when the postseason allows for the players to settle everything on the field.
