The same team that got embarassed by Utah and squandered away a huge bowl lead to TCU is coming to Lincoln with a new QB, no SF and Hoke on the defnse.

I am liking Nebraska's chances more and more.

I imagine the Oregon game to be very competitive at least into the early part of 4th quarter. The key to stopping Oregon is not letting them get on a "run". They may not be the Mariota team, but they can burn you on a single given play all game long. The issue with beating Oregon usually is that you have to outscore them. With a new defensive philosophy coming in...who know's about how their defense will look. They have athletes everywhere. If Nebraska/TA can keep from throwing too many INT's they will have a shot.

Oregon does very well on taking the ball away and then turning those possessions into immediate points via explosive plays. Unfortunately I don't see NU getting the win at the end. I see the inexperience/rebuild of NU getting in the way of this first game against Oregon. 2017 will be interesting but it's harder to win in Eugene than it is in Lincoln in the recent past. So who knows. It will be an interesting series. However just don't see NU on the winning end yet. Few years away still.

NU's Secondary and LB's have to be playmakers ALL game to have a shot in either game. The stress Oregon puts on those 2 groups is ridiculous.

I think you are thinking more with your heart than your head here. I remember you thought Oregon with not miss a beat last year without Mariota. Their season last year came very close to becoming a disaster in the middle of it. With a hurt or absent Vernan Davis they sputtered badly. I was impressed to see them right the ship though. I see this game as coming down to TA. If good Tommy shows up they win.

A healthy Vernon ADAMS, and I would have been awfully close to correct. I don't see them somehow winning that Utah game last year but every OTHER game was right there.

No, I'm not. Here's the thing. Oregon doesn't NEED a Marcus Mariota. They need someone that can perform close to what Darron Thomas and Jeremiah Masoli did. The defense struggles mostly due to when the offense doesn't move the chains. That's the downside to up tempo. You go 3 and out, and the defense has no rest. It's why the 1 game vs Stanford got out of hand until the 4th quarter in 2013.

I'm not saying Oregon will come in and light up the scoreboard to the tune of 50 points but, they will get their 30 at least.

Here's the thing. Oregon returned nearly everyone on both sides of the ball. The defense played well enough to beat Stanford and McCaffery. No reason to think they won't be ready.

Yea, coming to play a team that got smashed by PURDUEEEEEE. Gave up games on the last play and finished 6-7. With a QB that throws more INT's than anyone in the country. No consistent credible running threat. No consistent competent playcalling. Entire DLine gone. A secondary that is SUPER suspect. OLine that is questionable.

Nobody is naive enough to compare Oregon and Colorado. But Oregon loses a few key components that make that up tempo so deadly. If that is the lynch pin holding their whole team together, yeesh lookout.

I expect Nebraska to turn some ugly offensive series into 3 and Outs to frustrate them. I also expect Riley to have a chip on his shoulder for this one.

I'd like to say as well, in regards to what Redux said, that I think Oregon deserves the nod for offensive advantage whether they're clicking or not. Oregon has been recruiting to, and playing with, a specific offensive identity for several years now. It's engrained in their culture, coaches and players. So, while they may be without Mariota/Frost, I still think they're a very talented offensive team any day of the week. They're only two years removed from a national title appearance - they're still a very good program.

They're the 2nd/3rd best team we'll play next year.

If you read anywhere on my posts that I said that Oregon was a dumpster fire, please show me that. I said they would be a good team not great. I see 8-4, 9-3 at the most, could be 7-5. That is a good team. You see this game going Oregon's way and I don't. I watch a lot of Oregon FB, my youngest is kind of a fan. I just don't have a lot of faith in their HC. He is not Chip Kelly, you and I both know just because you are running someone's system and were on staff it is not always the same. Like TO and FS at Nebraska, everyone and every coach is a little different.

It'll obviously depend on how we show in the first two games but right now, I'd guess something like Oregon -7.5

That was my first thought too. But as I consider it more, there's been some coaching turnover there. Oregon has a different OC and DC than the last time Riley faced them. Their new DC, Brady Hoke, faced Nebraska several times. But that was under Pelini/Beck not Riley/Langsdorf. I'm not sure that Riley knows much about the Oregon team that will visit Memorial Stadium in six months. And I'm don't think they know much about us either.
