Messi Wins Golden Shoe Award For Europe's Top Scorer

Lionel Messi collected the Golden Shoe award for top European goalscorer during 2009-10 season in a ceremony last night. Messi's 34 league goals in 35 matches made him the highest scorer to win the prize since Mario Jardel’s astonishing 42 strikes for Sporting Lisbon in 2001-02.

Xavi To Miss Sunday's Match Against Mallorca

Barcelona have confirmed that Xavi has been excluded from the squad to face Mallorca at the Camp Nou on Sunday evening. Xavi has also been excluded from Spain's international squad for the matches against Scotland and Lithuania as a result of tendonitis. Xavi is expected to be out until at least the match versus Valencia on October 17.

Fabregas To Miss Sunday's Match Against Chelsea

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed skipper Cesc Fabregas will not play in Sunday's clash against Chelsea. Fabregas injured his hamstring a fortnight ago when he rebounded Anton Ferdinand's clearance into the defender's net to open the scoring in the 1-1 draw.

The start of the game was delayed 20 minutes due to a pipe bursting in Manchester United's locker room. Rooney did not play and was shown icing his ankle on the sideline. For some reason, Sir Alex Ferguson chose not to start Berbatov, even though he is the EPL's top scorer. just a poor effort overall by United who rarely threatened and looked shaky on defense

Lionel Messi gave Barcelona the lead after 20 minutes, but Nsue leveled for Mallorca shortly before half time. Xavi was missing through injury (tendonitis in his left Achilles), while David Villa was suspended following his red card at Athletic Bilbao last weekend. Carles Puyol was left out, along with Sergio Busquets, which meant a start for Mascherano in midfield.

Nolito came on for Pedro in the 78th minute when he hurt himself on the pitch (a huge divot sprung up).
