OFFICIAL: Inter and Benitez Part Ways

A statement on Inter Milan's official website reads:

"F.C Internazionale and Rafael Benitez communicate that, mutually and with reciprocal satisfaction, they have reached an agreement for the resolution of their working relationship."

"F.C Internazionale would like to thank Rafael Benitez for his work at the helm of the team which led them to the Supercoppa Italiana and Club World Cup successes."

"Rafael Benitez thanks F.C Internazionale for the important and professional experience and for the victories obtained together."

It is rumored Benitez's buyout clause was $3 million.

 
Moratti Hints At Boxing Day Decision

"Today is not the day," Massimo Moratti is quoted as saying by Goal.com Italy. "We will do something and you will get to know more on December 26 or 27."

When questioned whether Leonardo is the frontrunner for the job and whether appointing the Brazilian would be a snub towards arch-rivals Milan, Moratti replied, "I never make this kind of reasoning, I do not live out of spite."

"And I would be disappointed if it were interpreted in this way."

 
OFFICIAL: Ibrahim Afellay Joins Barcelona On A Four-And-A-Half Year Contract

A statement on Barcelona's official website reads: "Ibrahim Afellay signed the deal at 11 o’clock this morning. The 24-year old’s contract is for four and a half years and includes a $100 million buyout clause. The deal also includes an agreement for Barça to play PSV in their centenary match in 2013."

PSV and Barca had already agreed upon a $3 million transfer fee in November.

 
Arsenal Interested In Sergio Canales

According to Spanish newspaper Sport, Arsene Wenger is interested in acquiring Real Madrid youngster Sergio Canales. Canales has failed to feature regularly and Wenger will try to secure the Spaniard on loan for the remainder of the season. Canales signed a 6 year deal with Madrid in the summer.

 
OFFICIAL: Inter Appoint Leonardo New Coach

A statement on their official website reads: "The 41-year-old Brazilian coach will take charge of the European and World Champions as of 29 December, when the Nerazzurri begin training again in Appiano Gentile."

"Leonardo signed a contract this evening that will run until 30 June 2012. The club will make an announcement over the next few days regarding his official presentation."

"We wish Leonardo the very best of luck and are sure that with his class, experience and winning mentality the Club and the team can achieve the results that everyone at Inter and all the Inter fans want to see."

 
Puyol Out 10 Days With Injured Hamstring

Carles Puyol faces 10 days on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury while representing a Catalan select in a recent friendly against Honduras. The club have confirmed a slight strain in the right hamstring, and have recommended a recuperation period of 10 days to avoid further damage.
