U.S. To Play Spain In Friendly On June 4 At Gillette Stadium

The U.S. Men's National Team announced Friday they will play a friendly against 2010 World Cup Champion Spain in preparation for the 2011 Gold Cup. The clash with the World Cup winners will be played at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachuetts on June 4.

“Spain is clearly one of the most talented teams in the world,” said U.S. head coach Bob Bradley. “We value the opportunity to test ourselves against a team of their quality, and we couldn’t ask for a better match to prepare for the Gold Cup.”

Rossi Will Join A Club That Can Win Trophies - Agent

Villarreal striker Giuseppe Rossi is ready to move but will only join a club that will win trophies in the immediate future, claims his agent Federico Pastorello.

The 24 year old has been the recent subject of transfer speculation with Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan all keen for his signature. In January, Tottenham offered $30 million but were turned down by the Spanish club.

“It is true, Juventus have asked for the player as is usual for a big club to do,” said Pastorello. “Last year they made an offer to Villarreal for a loan deal with the right to sign on a permanent contract, but the Spanish club rejected it."

“Tottenham came in January and in economic terms, it was a great opportunity but a player like Rossi at this point in his career can move ahead and join a club that guarantees that he can win something important."

"There are few such clubs and one of them is Juventus despite their recent years of difficulty. Rossi is, of course, sensitive to the idea of returning to Italy.”

 
Judges To Hear La Liga's Case Against Spanish Government

Representatives of the LFP and the G-6 (the 6 clubs against the proposed strike) will meet in court Tuesday to try to come to an agreement over a proposed strike for this week's games. The LFP agreed weeks ago to strike this weekend with the intention of annulling the obligatory 1 La Liga game being aired for free and for the smaller clubs to receive a bigger piece of the pie from tv contracts and betting.

These 6 clubs (Athletic, Espanyol, Real Sociedad, Real Zaragoza, Sevilla and Villarreal) are against the strike and have demanded a quick resolution from the Spanish court so as to avoid the upcoming strike.

Verdict On La Liga Strike To Be Announced Wednesday

The court's verdict on the proposed La Liga strike for this weekend will be announced on Wednesday, with 6 clubs looking to call off the postponement. Many teams in La Liga requested that the government end the law that requires 1 match to be shown for free per round of fixtures in order to secure more revenue from its television contracts.

Meanwhile, the government is maintaining their position, prompting the LFP to suspend all matches that were scheduled to take place this weekend. The 6 teams did not support the proposed strike and therefore filed an appeal at a court in Madrid.

The lawyers of the 6 clubs pointed out during Tuesday's hearing that the LFP refused to postpone a number of games earlier this season because of practical reasons and added they didn't see any reason why this situation has changed.

Higuain Set For Miracle Recovery - Report

Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain is racing his way back to action and could be in the squad to face Sporting Gijon at the weekend, a full 3 weeks sooner than expected following back surgery in January.

Spanish newspaper Marca is reporting Higuain could be included in the squad for the game against Sporting, subject to possible strike action following a dispute between the LFP and Spanish government over television rights.

 
Judge: La Liga Cannot Legally Strike This Weekend

A statement from the court read: "The court decides the official calendar for the first and second divisions should remain unaltered for the next round of matches."

Judge Purificacion Pujol added: "The league calendar cannot be changed."

The LFP accepted the judge's ruling but said: "Despite the internal discrepancies within the LFP over the measures adopted at the assembly on February 11, all the clubs that make up the league continue to press their demands on the government. From now on, a new road map will be established that will allow us to unlock the talks in our search for solutions to the grievances of professional football compared to other sectors of the Spanish economy."

Pinto Signs Extension With Barcelona

Spanish goalkeeper Jose Manuel Pinto signed a 1 year contract extension with la Blaugrana on Wednesday that will see him remain at Barcelona until June 30, 2012. Pinto is the backup for starter Victor Valdes.
