Barcelona Wear Down Atletico Madrid 2-1

What an amazing game! The atmosphere in the crowd was electrifying. De Gea put on a performance to be proud of, denying David Villa of 3 good scoring opportunities and Xavi of another. He also crowded out Messi in the 86th minute during a 1-on-1 breakaway. The big news coming out of the game is Messi getting carried off on a stretcher after a bad foul from Ujfalusi in the 93rd minute (who received a straight red card, even though it was his second booking). He was covering his eyes with his hands, so it must be bad. Replays showed Ujfalusi went in studs up on Messi's right ankle. Barcelona had possession of the ball 68% of the time.

This was Barcelona's first win at the Vicente Calderon in three seasons. Forlan and Aguero were completely neutralized by the Barcelona defense. Aguero had to come off in the 52nd minute. He was shown icing his knee on the sideline.

Villa was substituted in the 78th minute for Keita. The 19 year old goalkeeper from Madrid had Villa's number all night long. Villa had opportunity after opportunity to put one in, but was denied every time.

Messi Out 2 Weeks With Injured Ankle

Coach Pep Guardiola confirmed that the Argentine had not broken his ankle in the challenge involving Tomas Ujfalusi but reports in the Spanish press have revealed that Messi will miss at least two weeks.

"We are very pleased with the win but sad about the injury to Leo (Messi)," he told reporters at a news conference.

"In principle, a fracture is ruled out which was what was worrying us. Tomorrow we'll do some tests and they'll tell us how he is."

Early reports are suggesting Messi has suffered strained ligaments in his right ankle and may miss the next four games, returning to action in early October just in time for the international break.

Canales Out 3 Weeks With Ankle Injury

Ujfalusi Suspended 2 Games For Tackle On Messi

Ujfalusi received the minimum ban Tuesday based on La Liga's disciplinary committee ruling. He could have been suspended for up to one month.

Real Madrid Do Enough To Beat Espanyol 3-0

A very poor first half for Real Madrid. sloppy passes...Ronaldo going down every chance he could; hogging the ball and not finding Higuain on break-aways...the Ronaldo we all know...If it weren't for the penalty kick, it would still be 0-0. It's strange when the crowd is completely silent. Lass has no business playing. He's a second-tier player. don't know why Mourinho started him over Khedira

The second half was a completely different story. 3 yellow cards and 3 red cards were awarded. Pepe made two bad challenges in a span of 4 minutes, leading to his dismissal (60th minute). However, just 2 minutes later, Galan was given a straight red for his late challenge on Ronaldo, which left the Portuguese striker writhing in pain. In the 88th minute, Forlin was shown his second yellow for arguing with the referee. 3 dismissals!

Real Madrid have conceded just 1 goal in 4 matches in La Liga this season.
