Comcast And Fox Soccer Finally Agree To HD Coverage

According to the New York Times, Comcast has finally agreed to carry Fox Soccer Channel in high definition. Fox Soccer began offering HD in January 2010. Everyone else eventually came around and carried it by April. Except, of course, Comcast.

Report: Rafael Benitez Offered Atletico Madrid Job

After a disastrous spell at Inter, Rafael Benitez has been handed an "extremely attractive" chance to return to management by Atletico Madrid, according to The Times. The Spaniard, who still lives in Liverpool, has told Atletico he will consider the opportunity while on holiday and make a decision when he returns. Benitez returns from holiday in 10 days time.

Bayern Munich Joins Race For Sergio Aguero

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Bayern Munich is considering making a move for Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero. The 22-year-old recently stated that he wants to leave the Spanish club in the summer as he needs a new challenge. Since then Aguero has been linked with Real Madrid, Chelsea, Juventus and now Bayern.

The Argentine signed a new deal with Atletico in January, which included a minimum release clause of 45 million euros. However, this amount is only applicable to offers from within Spain.

Speculation over the future of Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov has gone into overdrive after the Bulgarian failed to make the squad for the Champions League final against Barcelona. Berbatov, who is the club's leading scorer this season with 20 goals, wasn't expected to start the game but failed to even make the bench. Berbatov has 1 year remaining on his contract.

 
Chelsea Closing In On $26.5 Million Deal For Santos' Neymar

Chelsea is preparing a $26.5 million bid for Brazilian striker Neymar this summer, according to The Sun. Chelsea had a bid of $22 million rejected by Santos last summer but are confident that an increased fee will be enough to convince the club to sell their prize asset.

Chelsea's owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly a big fan of the youngster and is willing to become personally involved in any negotiations that take place with both the player and his club.

 
Atletico Madrid Is Ready To Sell Aguero- President Enrique Cerezo

"We are ready to sell him on the basis that clubs interested pay the $45 million clause. And they will have to do it in cash," Cerezo told Sky Sport Italia.

"He has told us that he wants to leave. We are waiting for him to tell us his preferences, but for the moment we have not received any official offer."

 
Puyol To Have Knee Surgery On Wednesday

Barcelona captain Carles Puyol will undergo a left knee operation on Wednesday. The Spanish and European champions made the announcement on their official website on Monday.

“Carles Puyol will be operated on at 14.00 on Wednesday, June 1 at the Clinica Quiron to resolve the problems he’s been suffering with his left knee,” read a statement.

“Following the operation, Doctors Ricard Pruna and Ramon Cugat will speak to the media at the Ricard Maxenchs Press Room at the Camp Nou.”

The 33-year-old was sidelined for almost 3 months after he sustained a tendon injury in his left knee against Racing Santander on January 22.

Report: Rafael Benitez Turns Down Atletico Madrid Job

Spanish newspaper AS is reporting Rafa Benitez has made it clear that he is not interested in the position of head coach at Atletico Madrid. Atletico will have to turn their attention elsewhere in their search for a new coach, with Barcelona B coach Luis Enrique and former Sevilla tactician Gregorio Manzano both in the lead.

 
Giuseppe Rossi In Negotiations With Barcelona – Agent

Federico Pastorello has revealed that his client has been formally approached by Barcelona, and that they have been told the forward’s market price.

“We are talking with Barcelona and Rossi would love to play for the club,” Pastorello told Spanish newspaper AS. “His price-tag is between $25 million [£21.8m] and $30 million [£26.2m]. We are now waiting for news from Barca.”

 
Manchester United's Paul Scholes Retires

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes announced his retirement on Tuesday, ending the career of a famously low-key player widely regarded as one of the most technically gifted of his generation.

The 36-year-old Scholes made 676 appearances for United after making his debut for the club in 1994 and was the midfield heartbeat of a team that has dominated English soccer for the past two decades.

"I am not a man of many words but I can honestly say that playing football is all I have ever wanted to do and to have had such a long and successful career at Manchester United has been a real honor," said Scholes.

"This was not a decision that I have taken lightly, but I feel now is the right time for me to stop playing."

 
OFFICIAL: Bayern Munich Sign Manuel Neuer

A statement on Bayern's official website reads: "Today, FC Bayern Munich and FC Schalke 04 agreed to terms of the transfer of Manuel Neuer. Consequently, Neuer will join the German record champions on July 1, 2011."

The 25-year-old goalkeeper, who will sign a 5 year deal, was thrilled with the move and added: "I'm really looking forward to a great and exciting challenge at Bayern. Many colleagues from the national team are now my teammates in Munich. So I will not enter an unknown territory and should settle in quickly."
