Ever think Martinez is the problem

I think the problem is aliens.

Without sounding to harsh i guess im sorry i dont read all themartinez threads out there. This has nothing to do with his playing ability or his running ability, or his fumbles. Its his ability to have control and maintain control of his guys out on the field. The coaches are calling the shots but everyone on the field takes there cues from the qb period. And he has never shown he can lead like he needs to. He is a good player but he is not a good leader, he doesnt show hes calm when its on the line, he cant demand his lineman push harder to give him time in the pocket. He doesnt have nor will he have that ability. He is a good player and tough as nails for playing hurt so much but some people lead and some follow.

I know what you're getting at. With TA or RKIII under center the offense just looks different. Hard to quantify, but the plays seem to get off faster, less confusion, less checking at the line. Okay, yes, look at the competition, but I don't think this is a figment of our imagination. Some guys have presence. When they're out there, something about who they are imprints itself on the unit. Taylor does not have that thing, and honestly, he never did. Pelini threw the dice with a blindingly fast track-speed runner and lost. The gamble didn't net us any hardware. That alongside a host of other issues has brought us to this point.

Taylor isn't THE problem. But, strangely, I think replacing him might be a solution. If RKIII or TA trots out there and wins out, suddenly we're having a whole other conversation come December. But if Taylor goes out there again and continues to lose in his ugly, schizophrenic way, Pelini might be in effect resigning with that decision. The defense is bad enough, but letting the offense collapse with Taylor is how a coaching regime change begins.

There is another thread showing the "power" of the teams we have played (beaten) and that of the teams we have yet to play. TA/RKIII have averaged a tougher schedule so far in their 3 games and are 3-0. We are kidding ourselves in thinking that Martinez played far superior talent.

I forgot how much more powerful South Dakota, Illinois and Purdue are than UCLA and Minnesota. Thanks for reminding me.

But how bout the games we WON under Martinez-the apparent powers So. Miss and Wyoming. I have to agree with Lo on this one.

Also the fact that SDSU, Illinios, and Purdue? We simply leveled those teams. Did what you do to bad teams.

This is purely anecdotal (however, it may not be at the end of the season), but doesn't it seem like the defense plays with more swagger and confidence when TA or RKIII are on the field? We looked good against Illinois and Purdue, we just seemed to be playing defense faster and at a higher level. Whereas we didn't seem to have that confidence with Taylor under center against Wyoming and UCLA (2nd half).

Again, purely anecdotal, but I am interested to see how we play tomorrow as we will have TA and RKIII under center once again. Should we win out, and should we continue to use TA and RKIII, and should we continue to play well defensively, perhaps there is something intangible about TA and RKIII that could potentially have an impact on our team.

I was comparing the wins vs wins. Apples to apples. TA/RKIII won against better competition and by a larger margin than the Martinez wins. The O seemed more "fluid" (could be from a simplified plan or less audibles), but is resulted in more points against better teams.......

LOL @ another Martinez thread saying all the stuff I've been saying for about 3 years now. Only until this year would anyone even listen.

So we can consider all of this just "pent up" bashing of his QB abilities which I understand and imagine feels good to type.

HOWEVER, none of the numerous redundant posts and threads should be a NEWS FLASH to anyone. At this point I think it FINALLY goes without saying.

So, frustrating as this has all been leading up to the MN loss, consider whether it is time to stop piling on TM and whether it's been enough already.

As I myself have been quite critical this is to some degree the pot calling the kettle black, but something to consider.

Look at SC vs Mizzou. Down 17, Shaw comes in and SC wins. D stepped up its play as well as the O. In that situation, Shaw brought "it" when ha came onto the field. The team, with him at QB, knew they could win. Not sure if it is similar to our situation, but was a noticeable shift when he (Shaw) came in.

Agree that it will be interesting to see whether the D has more spring in their step with the return to the TA RKIII combo.

It does seem like his injuries linger. He said the ankle injury he suffered midway through the 2010 season continued to bother him in 2011 and impact his throwing mechanics. The toe injury that continues to bother him now occurred in Nebraska's season opener Aug. 31, nearly two months ago. Martinez also had a shoulder injury from the opener, and now a hip pointer from the Minnesota game. He's clearly not the same quarterback when unable to run.

Pelini was frustrated Monday when discussing Martinez's situation, saying, "If he looks me in the eye and says, 'Yes, I'm ready to go,' then I felt at some point we needed to give him the opportunity to get back out there and play." Pelini later added, "I'm not going to sit here and play this game all year long." It's hard to blame Pelini for trusting Martinez when he asked the quarterback how he felt. Then again, no one should be surprised that Martinez, a senior, wanted to play. In games we've lost, it has rarely been Martinez that has caused the issues. Special teams, defense, and receiver problems have plagued this football program over the last few years. Putting TA or RK3 in the Minnesota game (or the UCLA game for the matter) would not fix the problems with the Husker football program.

I'm talking about this year, thank you. And no one can ignore the extra spark, sense of urgency, the smoothness of operation of both the offense and defense for those three games. Those are not indicators of competition. They are of leadership. This his been a knock on Taylor since his freshman campaign. But it just doesnt appear he demands the sort of excellence that one would expect a qb to demand.

This is a tough situation. i understand. He's done so much for us. He's played hurt and led the team to wins. And prior to this season, yes, he was our best-and probably even only-choice for quarterback. But that doesnt excuse the fact that every player has a cieling, and I just think we've hit it with Taylor.

Good post that shows we actually have won some games over quality opponents......which we have. Perhaps one of the hardest knocks on Martinez is his turnovers. Turnovers are tracked and Martinez has high career numbers in turnovers.
