It really doesn't matter all that much. Not until those "play in" games are no longer on that Tuesday.
It is like the CWS, which is really 64 teams but they treat it like it is just 8.

I was not alive when it went from 32 to 64 but I am sure people bitched. People cried when it went to 68 and it is fine. The only thing is, as usual, the NCAA has no idea what to do with those "first four" games and they treat them like crap.
But more teams in is more fun
