Eye Gouging and punching whats the difference?

"It’s probably the parent in me, but I have no problem with Oregon running back LeGarrette Blount being reinstated. Yes, he threw a punch and lost it. But I see it as a teaching moment. Get some good out of the episode. Blount’s biggest crime may be that he doesn’t play for Florida, where eye-gouging gets you a half-game suspension."

found this really interesting, the oregon player was suspended for what 8 games? and the florida player who could have possibly blinded a guy for life was suspended for half a game? seems little odd.

First of all I agree eye gouging is a lot dirtier and deserves more punnishment. But to be fair spikes did give himself a "self imposed" suspension for one whole game as oppose to the half game urban meyer gave him so he did miss the whole vandy game.

I agree, but I think had it been an actual opponent Florida was playing, I doubt he "self imposes" his other half. Meyer should have manned up and sat him a game

Exactly they were playing Vandy, why not miss the whole game? I don't understand how this happens, oregons guy gone most of the season, florida o just half a game no big deal u could have ruined a guys life. Its total bs and meyer is a pos for not realizing it, or maybe he can't see past the game and all he cares about is winning even at the cost of anothers vision.

I still can't believe the Boise St. guy, other than the embarassment of being dropped by a glancing blow, wasn't disciplined, after all, he instigated the entire fiasco.

:yeah

why didn't the SEC or NCAA take any action in the Spike incident, or did they? Though I recall Blount being suspended by the university, apparently the Pac10 had to approve the reinstallement so they were somewhat involved

I hate just because he is on the gators and they are doing so good he gets a slap on the wrist. Its crap, to be honest he should be kicked off the team. Theres no place in football for that sh#t.

why didn't the SEC
The SEC decided years ago that, as an institution, they were going to be all about football, damn the consequences. They dropped their academic admission standards to the NCAA minimum across the conference, and they have been the most penalized conference by the NCAA in the past 50 years. In the past 20 years Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, LSU, Mississippi State, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee have all been on some form of NCAA probation, or to put it another way, every school in the conference except Vanderbilt.

The SEC happens to sit astride some of the country's best recruiting areas, but they've been there forever and were still playing second fiddle to the Big 10 and the Big 8/Big 12, and that rankled. Since the 1990s they have made several institutional changes to not only level the playing field, but dominate it. Today they're one of the most wealthy conferences and they have some of the best teams in football. But at what price?

Urban Meyer is a win at all cost coach. He did the minimum he could get by with in suspending the player for .5 game. Additionally, A self imposed suspension? I call that quitting.

NO Joke, Meyer has no balls and obviously no trust in his team if he cannot suspend a player for something so messed up as eye gouging.

The "victim" of the "eye gouging" thought it was just football and that Spikes should not have been suspended at all. I thought that was interesting...I would have agreed with you guys but that just makes me wonder.
