So... trash service update:

- Called Wasteline. Was on hold for 45 min.

- I was told in a one minute conversation that I needed to file a police report with OPD in order to avoid paying for a new one (these trash cans are valued online at $140 ea.) and then CALL WASTELINE BACK

- Called OPD. The officer was stunned/incredulous. Couldn't believe they had asked me to file a police report, but he was also confused about it because it's not my property. The can is the city of Omaha's property, so he had to list them as the victim.

- Now I'm back on hold again with Wasteline

Maybe I shouldn't get a house until this is all figured out.

One thing I've learned from older homeowners (whom love to share advice to a youngin' like me) is that "there's always something" either to do or something that's going wrong with your house, and it's 100% true. It's always something. Having a house is great, but sometimes, I miss the life of a renter.

 
I would be tempted to buy my current apartment and the one next door if these apts were for sale. They're pretty nice and the walls don't let any noise through. We just need more room and to not throw $ away every month.

 
Well the next level of hell is owning a house that you rent to someone else who constantly wants you to do something about it. 

First world problem I guess. Been told that owning rental property is how most successful people get a leg up in the world. But I can't think of anything that fits my temperament less than being a landlord. 

As a bleeding heart lib I know I'm supposed to side with tenants, but man, tenants can be a$$h@!es. 

 
It isn't the most fun in the world, but it's fairly profitable. Owning rentals is part of our retirement plan, and I'm stating the obvious here, it's so much easier when you have good renters. I've met with potential renters, and told them "No" after speaking with them, especially if they have pets. If possible, I try to wait for the right renter, but sometimes it's nice to have a warm body in the unit to collect rent from, instead of letting it sit for too long.

And renters can be a$$h@!es, especially the squatters. I don't play very nice when you're trying to use the law to live rent-free in one of my properties.

Currently experiencing minor home owner issue. Had the hot water line in our master bathroom shower start leaking and dripping down into our neighboring condo's garage. Fortunately the association had a plumber come fix it and so far we haven't been charged, but he left some nice holes in our closet and kitchen pantry drywall to get access. Nobody ever came to fix them, so I guess that's my job.

Now the mixing valve seems to be f#&%ed in the same shower. Water gets hot then just goes to barely warm after a couple minutes. All the other fixtures hold temperature fine. Went and replaced the cartridge but forgot to buy a new O-ring before home-cheapo closed, so it's leaking... Hopefully I'll be done with that this afternoon.

Then I can drain the water heater to clean some of the sedament the previous owners never cared about. Last time I did it I had to cycle the water valve because the drain valve kept getting plugged with chunks of sedament. I'm too cheap to replace it yet, but one day soon the thing is going to die. It's a 17 years old electric one.  :lol:

 
I've got the money I'm just a cheap a$$ procrastinator  :lol:

Plus reading reviews for new water heaters and how all the new technology fails is depressing...
