field goal try?

I know it would have been a long shot, but on the very last play of the game I wish we would have made a field goal attempt instead of the Hail Mary. How often does a Hail Mary actually work, once every 10 years?

Congdon in no way would have been able to make that kick. His longest kick ever is 41 yards I believe.

I agree with the coaches call. When you combine Congdon's weak leg and the weather conditions the hail mary was the best choice.

Didn't we have a succesful fake punt last week? Texas may have sniffed it out, but if we run it and make the catch, you may have a better chance than a hail mary.

They would have gone into a prevent defense and likely stopped us. They know Congdon's capabilities and would have assumed that it would be a fake. Simply put, the right call was made with the circumstances.

it was the right call to do the hail mary but just think if nunn didn't fumble the ball, wait we can't blame him if we would of made the 2pt conversion which there was a guy WIDE open on the 1 yd line we would have gone into overtime

I thought that we should have at least tried. Recalling the last Texas game... where we could have easily kicked the field goal to go into OT... this would have at least given us a shot.

I still don't know why Callahan went crazy at the end wasting all of our times out. We could have easily marched down the field with a minute and two times out. We've done it before!!1

He played the percentages. Freeze the kicker - a guy who had not been in the game at all. Let him stand there in the cold and get tight. Then let him kick it into the wind.

The percentages were there. The kid overcame them - hat's off to him for that.

Agreed! I thought it was the right thing to do. I think Cali may have also been hoping to stop UT farther back with a few seconds left forcing a long field goal. I thought the idea of letting the clock wind down worked in our favor at the time.

Plus even though we had the wind at our backs I think on the field the wind was more swirling that anything.....I noticed during the last part of halftime kickers on both side of the field were having problems!!! :dunno

Interesting post and thread. That Crosby kid from Colorado might be the only kicker in the country who'd have a decent shot at making that one under the circumstances.

I noticed that as well. If you looked at all the flags aournd the staduim they seemed to be going in different directions.

It was definately a bad day for field goal kickers and throwing the long ball out there.....the wind was brutal at times!!!!

Ok, i disagree w/ the play calling, but w/ 2 to and their fg kicker kicking, even if he makes it gives us 3-4 plays to get into fg positoin to win the game.

I know Congdon isn't the longest fg kicker on the staff, ( I blame tha partiallyh on the staff for not throwing him in situatons against lesser opponent to kick that 45-50 yarder.) Nefver the less, put wesch or someone else to try a 57 Yard fg w/ the wind at their back. ( Yes miracles do happen, but only about 4 times in a quarter century) GBR.... :bonez
