Final USA Today Coaches Poll

Pelini's teams have finished strong the last two years. Let's hope that trend continues!
Let's hope we can beat our 1 tough OOC team for the first time in 5 years, and then let's hope we can get away from having a mid-year letdown. I think we have seen Bo doesn't let up and pushes to end the year better than started, but these two points I make are the ones that keep sticking in my head. Will we finish seasons off hard and a team as good as any in the country, sure, we have proven this, but can we get that first tough game win and dodge the mid-season letdown? That's where we need to wait and see.

Boise 4th?

Oh sh#t, they are going to be seriously butthurt-but I love it.

Join a real conference

Yet NU could have played them but chose not to.

The conference argument is less than leak when your(the fan of any team that ties to use this excuse for an argument against Boise State) team won't play them - even at home.

Nebraska fans rejoice in that your team is now ranked ahead of USC, West Virginia, Miami(FL), LSU, and Texas Tech.

Isn't it great that things are beginning to get back to normal?
Until we start bringing home Big XII Titles and a NC trophy it's not back to normal in my eyes. It is nice to be ranked in the Top 15 to end the season though.
That's why I said "beginning" to get back to normal. I didn't say we were there yet.

People will always find a way to discredit Boise. Before the bowls, many people felt TCU had a legitimate claim to #2, considering the fashion in which Texas beat Nebraska. Then Boise goes out and beats TCU fair and square on a neutral field, and people don't think 14-0 Boise should be in the top four?

We can't sit here as Husker fans and say, "Play somebody if you want our respect" while our own program refuses to play them, in Lincoln no less, on a perfect opening day game in 2011. I guess we're already packed with powerhouses like Wyoming and Fresno St.

Go back to August. We all know the Huskers have a great D, but a lot of questions about the young untested offense. Would we have taken wins against Missou, Oklahoma and Kansas on the way to a Big 12 North Title, a Holiday Bowl win and a #14 ranking?

I think so.

Now go back to the evening of October 24. Huskers have just lost to Iowa State at home to go 4 and 3. Did anyone see that as a blip on our way to a #14 ranking?

Didn't think so.

Still......pretty amazing to think that three plays going differently in the VTech, Iowa State and Texas games would have put us at 13 - 1. So there will always be a twinge of pain looking back on this season.

What's the reason given for not wanting to play Boise at home--is it the million bucks that they want? I've been unable to find any information on this other than Shatel's article here: http://www.omaha.com/article/20091116/SPORTS/711169832

It sounded from the old article that they were in talks to schedule a future game. I would think that it is more of a monetary sticking point than one of NU "ducking" Boise, but hey....who knows? Anyone have some solid info to share?

No it isn't the money. We make over $4 million from each home game, and even cupcakes ask $600-700k, so Boise isn't asking for that much more. According to Sipple, it doesn't make "scheduling sense". I guess he (and maybe TO?) feels that Fresno State, Wyoming and Washington are already tough enough for a non-conference slate. I personally don't agree. A game with Boise would draw huge national attention, and a win would be a huge boost to the 2011 team. It would help get us battle-tested for the Big 12.

NU is really starting to get some poll love for next year. BTW, #14 after Bo's 2nd year with an even higher pre-season 2010 ranking is awesome in my opinion. I think he's made bolievers out of the press. (Now just to back it up!)

No kidding. I can never remember a time that Nebraska got this much love from the talking heads.

Now if we can just get rid of Mark May...

Va. Tech, with a much smaller stadium and a lot fewer profits and revenue, found the money to play Boise State in 2010. The money thing, especially with NU's money, just doesn't jive.
