First Deer

Always a husker

Monday night I got my first deer with a bow and It was one of the greatest feelings ever. Im 17 and the last few years I had not been getting much luck. I shot a doe outside Des Moines, Iowa. It was about a 20 yard shot and my arrow went straight through the doe and it punctured one lung. The deer only ran about 75 yards. It was just awesome shooting my first deer and with a bow. To bad it wasn't a buck but hopefully there will be more to come.

Congrats

Did ya get buck fever? If you had it you still made a great shot.

Never have been bow hunting always used a firestick. 1968 1st one; north of Stuart, Ne. along the Niobrara.

Luck in the future

Congratulations and be careful if your using a deer stand. A friend of my dad's died last week after falling out of his deer stand and getting tangled up in his harness. Have fun, but be VERY careful. ;)

Congrats. Still remember my first. My dad and uncle told me I had to eat the liver raw. Almost did before they stopped me.

Haven't gotten around to hunting one yet, but am planning on it soon. One of my best friends told me when I moved back I'd have to plan on going hunting with him ---he'd never gone himself. Well, I'm back and have been on his a$$ to start making plans and now he's waffling.

Personally, I'm big on mule deer --as far as getting them mounted goes. They're far more majestic than white tails. Just an absolutely beautiful animal.

We'll probably go for whitetails the first go round when we get around to it. Since they're in close proximity to the Lincoln area and time constraints might prevent us from going out to the western reaches of the state.

Way to go!!! :cheers

My niece shot her first one too. The buck dressed out at 216lbs. I'm very proud of her.
