Football Stadiums Look for Ways to Draw Interest from More Fans

Everything else is just lipstick on a pig that defeats item #3..

If you need wifi service, you're not paying attention to the game and would be better off ignoring the game on your TV at home.

If you need a concert before the game, you're going for the wrong reason.

This is a nice sort of, "only true fans..." sentiment, but it isn't reality. The overwhelming majority of sports fans period are more or less casual fans. If you ever wanted to guarantee that our sellout streak would end, stop focusing on the fancy amenities or fan services/entertainment.

The sport, by itself, is only entertainment enough for a very small percentage of people. That's just the way the world is.

Not necessarily happy about the state of things, but you hit it dead on the head LOMS. That is just the way the world is currently.

It's got to be an experience that just blows the doors off anything else.

Also. I can't rewind/pause the game at the field.

That is true today, it wasn't the case back in my college days. Of course we didn't have smart phones or the Internet or wifi or near the demand for instant gratification....and the football was good. I pretty much feel sorry for Nebraska fans that didn't get to experience it the same way I did. Now get off my lawn.

Anyone know what the demand is like for student tickets now? Seems like a pain in the a$$ where you have to line up, get a wrist band and wait? Isn't that how they do it now?

eh, the wristband is only for the east stadium students and it doesn't really add any time since there's a smaller line than for south stadium. I never really had to wait that long when I sat in south my freshman year, but there are times where the south stadium students look like a log jam.

Thanks! I did not know that!

I'm curious, how much does it cost for student tickets nowadays?

IIRC the last time I purchased them in the early/mid 80's it was $45 for the whole season. We sat on the east side, about the north 30 yard line. I think we had assigned seats around row 10-15 but we would pretty much just stand wherever we felt like.

One year I sold the Oklahoma game for $100 because I was going home for Thanksgiving so I made $55 on the season and still got to see all the games but of course that one on TV. Can't remember which year exactly but we won the game and when I got back to the frat the big curved piece of goal post was laying in my bed. I guess it got paraded down O street before settling in my rack.

Lol. Current price is $23 a game, so it was $166 last season (five dollars of "fees"). No assigned seats, just general sections.

You can still resell tickets, but only to other students; they've stopped giving us booklets of tickets and instead have them on student IDs electronically. Can only be transferred from one student ID to another. I know students who got $100+ for the Miami game in 2014.

South stadium is typically freshmen/sophomores - if you want decent seats (the lower section), you've got to be at least an hour early, probably more.

East stadium is the upperclassmen - never waited in line once. Walk up, grab your wristband, and walk right in. Never went more than half an hour early, and always had a great seat haha.

You can still sell them to non-students, but that person has to pay the difference in cost between the student ticket vs a normal ticket price, thus almost entirely taking away the incentive for anyone else to buy a student ticket.

I know last year it went up pretty close to the first game before the student tickets sold out.
