This is one of the dumbest comments in this thread, and there’s a lot of them. Memphis scored 39 points on PSU, which is the most they gave up the entire season. Look at the season highs given up by PSU against Memphis in that game:


As Chris said above- difference in the game was TEN Memphis trips inside the PSU 35 resulting in 3 TD’s. If scoring 39 points with 542 yards of offense on a top 10 D requires “soul searching” then I don’t know what to tell you.

Not making excuses for the season our most explosive player was kicked off the team and we lost 3 games by 7 or less.We had no depth at running back and had to use Wan’dale to carry the ball more than we want to. This year if we don’t see a big jump under Frost then it probably won’t happen .

And who won again?????????????????  That would be Penn St.....  Who cares what Memphis "did".  Their high powered O, while moving the ball failed to win against a traditional B1G power........That was my point.  Trying to argue what the losing team did is probably "one of the dumbest posts in this thread".....

The point being how would a high octane O do against a traditional B1G defense.  They lost.  Penn St is a physical bruising team.  That's my point.  How did an established offense similar to Frost's do against a traditional B1G.  They lost.  The offense did not score more than Penn St.  So if Frost is betting on scoring one more point than the other guy, I am in the camp that thinks that is not a great strategy for the B1G......

I am not a fan of a finesse O.  I am not a fan of one predicated on needing chunk plays to win.  Are they great?  Absolutely, but if you don't get them it is very hard to win when your O is not built with the ability to get tough yards.  MAYBE with the recruitment of better guys the O really shines.  Much like it did in 2018....That is my hope.

And your point completely ignores the other phases of the game. They scored 39 points. Way more than the average PSUs defense has given up all year. Maybe you need to look at their defense.

Something to add, maybe the reason Memphis racked up yards but only scored 3 TDS in 10 red zone attempts is because they were not physical enough to finish the job. Everyone knows the cute stuff works from the 20 to the 20. But then the field shrinks and the space game is less and you need to be physical. 

 
From many top coaches - - comes the truism you need both speed, finesse (plays) and strength.   Coach Frost has said that many times,  and he felt NU needed to size and bulk up.   If we only rely on the power game in todays football, the opponent will adjust accordingly.  Ditto the above for TO . . . and he started to recruit to get those attributes.
