I am I
All-Conference
Nebraska 42, Arkansas State 21.
Now let’s get to the really fun stuff:
Like it or not, the Cody Green storyline is here to stay. It’s already hot. In part, you can thank the college football world’s fascination with recruiting for that.
Green, Nebraska’s true freshman backup quarterback, has been foremost in Husker fans’ thoughts ever since he verbally committed to the Huskers in July of 2008. That’s life in the Internet age. Recruiting hype is more rampant than ever. It’s gone mainstream. We know a kid’s favorite brand of peanut butter before he reaches campus. I know people who care more about recruiting wins and losses than real wins and losses.
Yes, it’s twisted.
Steve Clarkson, noted California quarterback academy guru, told CBSSports.com that people generally want to see hyped freshman QBs on the field.
“They’ve talked about them for months, sometimes years,” he said. “It’s what you’ve sold your alumni, people that are writing the checks.”
Clarkson has helped develop a long line of high school quarterbacks into college starters, including Jimmy Clausen of Notre Dame, Terrelle Pryor of Ohio State and Matt Barkley of USC.
What’s next for Green? Stay tuned. Nebraska offensive coordinator Shawn Watson dropped a telling nugget on the Big Red Breakfast crowd Friday, saying he informed starter Zac Lee two weeks ago for the first time that Green was now his main competition. It’s a noteworthy shift because entering preseason camp, Watson told me he essentially was the one who had to push Lee in practice because the backups were too far behind.
Is it inevitable that the Lee-Green competition must evolve into the dreaded “c” word — controversy? Not necessarily. As long as the NU coaches are open and honest about the situation, as long as they continue to communicate well with everyone involved, it can remain a competition that enhances Lee, Green and the entire team.

Reaching much? One guy gets his first start and whips 'em 42-3...the other guy gets in and has a nice play and scores 7?? Is "Sip" trying to create something out of nothing? Gimmie a break....
