The problem with Dailey, as has been stated, was that he was recruited as an option QB and had to adjust into Cally's system. The kid caught a lot of crap which wasn't really his fault.
That is what I've been saying about Dailey for years. Would have loved to see that guy in Frank's option offense.
He would have had similar results because he was an average college Quarterback. He wouldn’t have excelled in “Barney’s System” anymore then he did in Billy C’s. If you remember Barney was supposedly brought in to have a more balanced offense that could actually throw the ball. When Dailey played his Frosh year he didn’t do anything that should have made anybody think “Wow our future is bright” although some of the goofs in the Nation did. They based him being a potential stud off of a mop-up duty duck that he completed against Utah State. When brought in against ISU after Lord spotted him 28 points the offense and Dailey proceeded to lay a big fat turd. Dailey couldn’t throw the ball, was an average runner and people only had boners for him because he was the 2nd string QB behind Lord who they all detested (for some reason). Also if I’m not mistaken Dailey said in an interview that his High School team ran an offense similar to the WCO (waits for someone to say “link please”).
As far as Frankie and QB’s go, he got burned a couple times (Dukes, Crawford) and the 2nd choice guys (McLaughlin, Stunz) he brought in weren’t D-1 QB’s.
