Frank Solich

Start winning conference championships and BCS bowl games and then we'll talk, but in 2012, to compare Ohio to Boise St is ridiclous

This kid still hates Frank.

aw yes, the rallying picture of tigerboard. poor kid, still not as pathetic as being a mizzou fan. but the worst season as a husker fan is still better than the best season as a mizzou fan.

Better coach. Bo or Frank?

I'll bite.

Bo. And it ain't close.

In 1999, Nebraska had a National Championship team. The only reason it didn't happen was because Solich's coachtarded his way into a loss at Texas.

Now, that's not to say Bo is perfect. Bo is a better game planner than Solich and, at present point, a good recruiter ( see Stanton, ET al). And Frank was (is) an awful big time recruiter.

But you give Bo that 99 team, we lift up another crystal football.

Umm and Bo has COACHTARDED US INTO ANY LOSS'S IN HIS TENDER?? lol.

i think the point is that bo has not had the players solich had. sure that is bo's fault, but solich was not bringing in top talent (really did not have a chance).

It didn't matter how good of a coach Solich was, he was running an offense that wasn't sexy enough for that AD who I don't like and was going to get replaced no matter what he did. Well unless he won a NC that year, pretty hard to fire a guy after that. As far as between Bo and Frank, in my opinion I don't know.

IMO, Bo, at this point, has only mantained the best cally could offered. He has not progressed like he should have... not saying he can't or won't, just that he hasn't to this point.

It is pretty common knowledge that Stevie P and Frankie S really did not like each other when they were underlings at NU. The fact of the matter is that not too many people did like SP. Anywho Frank basically would have had to win the division to keep his job. Peterson thought he could come into Lincoln and remake the Huskers just like he did with Pitt and he would be the savior of Nebraska FB. If you haven't figured it out by now SP is a major league egomaniac Nebraska wasn't broke though, it just need a really good tune up.

Solich was doing this with his new coaches and they were actually having a pretty good year recruiting up to the point when he was let go. IMO FS would not have even stayed that long. I think he would have retired after 5-6 more years and turn the team over to TG. He would have won his 100 games and a couple of conference titles and quit on top.

I've said it before, but sometimes I wonder what might have happened if Solich had remained HC with Pelini as DC. We might have been really good for a long time until Pelini found a job somewhere else.

Did you read what I wrote immediately after what you put in boldface?

Happy for Frank, and it's great that Ohio is having such success lately. But his apathy towards recruiting sunk us into that hole in the first place. The journey out of it has been long and painful. For all of Callahan's ultimate failings as a coach, thank goodness he put us back on the recruiting map and showed that Nebraska can be a major recruiting power if we pull out all the stops.

And thank goodness that our recent direction with recruiting is going to have us take off in that regard under Bo.
