What seems strange about it?  They fired their head coach in the middle of the season.  I don't know anything about their assistants, but I'd guess that Clownahan is the only one with head coaching experience in the NFL.

Ahhh, that's right.  Good call.  When I first read this I thought it was Barney Cotton who coached the Alamo Bowl.  But it was Pelini, like you said.  Cotton coached the Holiday Bowl many years later when Pelini got fired at the end of the 2014 season.   We lost to USC.

Well, I understand the spirit of your question, but I think it could also be asked:  What do you think Scott Frost thinks about Frank Solich and Bo Pelini.  Frost is a lot of things, including a fairly consistent word master when it comes to talking about other people.  He's slipped up here and there, but his m.o. seems to be a bit of a politician when it comes to what he says. 

I'm guessing that his thinking is a lot more complementary of Pelini than Solich because Bo seemed to energize on toughness, crass as he could be about it.  Solich uncorked a good second career at Ohio, but as said before, that's a program in a conference that elite coaches grow then move on to first tier schools/conference. 

Which brings us to Frost's credentials.  ;) But that's a different thread.

Pelini's handling of the team post-Solich firing is why people looked at him as a viable replacement after Callahan was shown the door. 

Frankly, if Bo had gone out and gotten a better OC and paid better attention to offensive recruiting...

That, and if Bo's thuggish behavior hadn't become an embarrassment to the university.  I suspect Bo's behavior had more to do with his firing than his coaching prowess.

Yeah his behavior wore on ppl for far too long. I think Bo was perfect for the B12 in how he played against the spread and more passing attacks. Didn't transition as well to the B10

By three points, 42-45. I still wonder if having a head coach and the team not going through all that hoopla at the time would've been worth 3+ points in that game...

Matt Davison was pretty pro-Pelini, I imagine Frost's feelings are similar.

 
People keep forgetting that Frank Solich had a serious drinking and skirt-chasing problem that made him a PR liability even in 2003. The University treated him essentially the way they treated Carl Pelini a few years later.

The head coach of Nebraska football is the most famous representative of the state.

Also, a lot changed in 20 years. Bob Devaney's dwi's weren't news because the police typically escorted him home.

 
Solich recognized that recruiting was dropping off and that the offense needed to diversify a bit.  He made staff changes for that reason.   The new staff only got 1 year and never got a chance to proove themselves because of Petey's arrogance.  So we will never know now will we?   

That's enough for me.  Time to put all this behind.   I will give Frost the time he needs and support the team in a positive way and let the past rest.

I think BO needed to pay better attention to all recruiting. Our defense got destroyed by good teams

Has it really? I still see Lane Kiffin with a job. Bobby Petrino only until just recently. I can think of a lot more examples of coaches with very unsavory sexual behavior and otherwise that are still doing just fine even though everybody knows.
