Falling: Nebraska. How could you not be worried if you're Bill Callahan? QB Sam Keller -- potential first-round draft pick Sam Keller -- can't separate from backup Joe Ganz. Your two top tailbacks -- Cody Glenn and Marlon Lucky -- have had significant injuries and former safety Major Culbert is getting more reps with the first team. For those looking at USC in Week 3, I've got two words for you: Wake Forest. That's the Huskers' Week 2 opponent -- a loaded opponent hacked off because many think last year's ACC title was an aberration. One more thing: that game is in Winston-Salem.

--I would say there is one word before WF, Nevada. And, this "loaded opponent" is so loaded that they are unranked to start the year. Articles like this are fine and all, but let's just get the year started already.

He may have a point with the RBs - but I think the "even" Keller/Ganz race has been called such more as a PR move. I think that seperation is happening now. Clowns like this guy want there to be a clear-cut QB. I'd call our stock "even" at this point.

Hopefully Ganz is that good. Callahan can keep the outsiders wondering and guessing who the starting QB is going to be. But deep down, we ALL know that Keller is THE man and will start every game as long as he stays healthy. We do have to look no farther than Nevada to start off the season. I have no doubts that BC knows what he is doing and we will be just fine with him at the helm.

yea alot of people who don't follow huskers that solidly are thinking Keller isn't that good because Callahan won't name him the starter, those who actually know what they are talking about know it isn't a real compition, it is just to keep spirits up.

frankly, it is no body's business how or when cally announces his starters, at any position for that matter. wild a$$ speculation is what being a sportswriter, at this time of year especially, is all about.

the running back situation, granted, is not good at this time, but could improve in the next couple weeks. Keller is the sh#t, period.

WF will be a tough road game and USC following will be a huge challenge...so what?

no one expects us to really go through the season undefeated, but unless i miss my hunch, the big difference with this team, this year, is they WILL GET BETTER, as the season progresses and should finish strong and win a decent bowl game as well.

There will be all this specualation and down talk until the first game, then Keller will come out, complete 75% of his passes for 3 bills then Ganz will finish out the game and do a good job too. On College Football Live, Joe Schad said that Keller looks "really good" and is definitely on track to start, but Ganz is also doing well because he has been in the system for 3 full years. If Keller gets hurt or is ineffective, the ship won't be sunk. The Huskers have a good nonconference schedule this year. Nevada is not exactly a cupcake, Wake is a tough one, of course USC and Ball State almost knocked off Michigan in the Big House last year. The only concern that I have at this point is that Cody Glenn will not be able to play and Culbert and the freshmen are unknowns at this point.

i am not worried about the freshman running the ball, that is pretty straight forward.....get the ball from the qb, find the hole, run through it, and HOLD ON TO THE DAMN BALL....what does concern me the most about the freshmen will be picking up the blitz and blocking skills

That's my concern and the most important factor, imo. We know they can all run, they need to know their blocking assignments.

All I can say is I hope our guys take this one game at a time because I catch myself looking past Nevada and WF because of USC!!!!

They could use Lawson who has been in the system for a while as a second back in the backfield to do blitz pick ups when needed. Plus he is a nasty runner if you give him the ball. I like this kid alot.
