Frost: Dawson done “great job” with special teams- may not hire a dedicated ST Coordinator

Our special teams have sucked since Bo was fired. Pelini had good special teams. Which begs the question if pelini can field good special teams why can’t our wonder boy Frost? Simple, he does not believe special teams are that important. If Frost had put emphasis on special teams since his arrival, his 5-18 record in one score games could easily be 12-11.

This was posted on Roddit yesterday about the kicker situation, feels like it's worth sharing here. The topic was someone saying we should have an open tryout for kickers...

OKAY... AGAIN..

I am so tired of this topic. Let me lay it all out right now.

1... we did that in 2019 and we got a guy that came and played for 4 games and did a nice job. Matt Waldoch (wish he would have stayed and honed the craft, he clearly had ability)

2... Culp is not kicking because Culp is injured enough to where it is effecting his performance. He has a hip flexor (same injury that Rodrigo Blankenship had that made him miss the last 3 Colts games).

3... Frost has consistently opened up the competition and a few weeks ago Contreras won the job. Contreraz, is not just some guy off the street, he was second team Juco All American at Iowa Western CC... he was 13-15 on FGS and 42-42 on XPs in 2019.

4... Kicking a football off a mechanical holder with no rush... NOTHING like kicking the ball in front of 80k people.

Last week Contreraz had 1 very bad hit on the missed short FGs... his other kick from 45 was a great hit... but he should have been aiming toward the outside upright. The ball flight HOWEVER was great and he clearly has a nice leg.

Right now.. everyone is holding their breath waiting for the other shoe to drop but we have talented guys to do this job.. and from all accounts they do it well in practice.

I am a former Division 1 kicker... 95% is mentality (it is why Alex Henery was so special)... hopefully Chase comes back and makes some big ones in Madison or Culp is healthy enough to take back over.

Who would be a kicker?

Decisions and statements like these make me think Martinez is coming back next year and will be our starting QB once again. So who's Nebraska looking to hire in 2023?

Must add for qualifications the kicker must be a very religious individual as he must go face to face with whatever demons and evil spirits haunt the Nebraska athletic program.
