If people notice McBride coached four of the games that we have given up the most passing yards. Besides Chris Simms I wouldn't consider any of the QBs to be outstanding either. So Barmann isn't the first average QB to pass all over the Blackshirts.(nor will he be the last) What does it all mean? I have no idea but I found it pretty interesting. The good thing is we are 4-3 in these games. :wacko:

 
That 98 game is a mystery. How the heck do you pass for almost 600 yards and only score 27 points? Unbelievable.

 
If I remember right they did most of their damage in the second half.

Louisiana Tech set a number of records against us. Most passing attempts 68, Completions 46, Yards 590, and Troy Edwards got 405 receiving yards against us. That last one just may be an NCAA record.

How many games did McBride Coach over the years?

What Coach would you want?

A - Coach gives up big yard games 2 times in 3.5 years

B - Coach gives up 4 big yard games in 20 years

there are so many differences between now and then it makes alot of stats like that pointless to compare. Teams never used to thow that much, the spread offenses of today didnt exist for mcbride's tenure. The scholorship caps and the current parity changed things also. To say nothing of the rule changes to allow more scoring.

I'm not giving a ringing endorsement of Cosgrove, but I dont think he should be fired either. Time will tell, but the defense has had some great games, and saved the team more times than it killed them sence Cos took over. How things look when we are not riddled with injuries, and have more elite talent in there will be a better yardstick.

McBride faced some extremely leathal passing Teams from Florida. The Spread has been around a long time too. Osbourne actualy started to use some spread formation in his later years. He ran a lot of option out of it using a shuval pass rather than a pitch. Cowboys ran some spread back in the day of Tom Landry. I saw the spread used at a H.S. in the late 80's.

I'm not calling for Cosgroves Job but to compare him with one of the all time greats is a bit carried away.

Wasn't comparing the two just wanted people to realize that 400 yards passing by an average QB had happened before.

McBride wasn't considered great by ANYBODY until 1993. That is a fact. A lot of people in the Husker nation didn't like him until 1993 just like they don't like Cosgrove.

As far as the spread offense goes. How many of the Big 8 teams during McBrides years ran a version of that? Maybe OSU when they had Gundy, Dykes, and Sanders and I still wouldn't say they ran it. Other then that those teams were run heavy squads that hardly ever threw the ball. The remark about McBride facing the Florida schools means nothing since he didn't help beat one of the good ones until 94. I love McBride but he struggled for many years until he switched to the 4-3 and brought in speed.
