How many times did you hear of Ozzy's assistants, or even Solich's going for greener pastures? My thought is, you have to have stability in College football right now and it starts with the coaching staff. Stoops has done a helluva job coaching even though his assistants leave year after year. I just think having coaches around for a long time solidified our program amongst the elite. Anyways, Coach Brown has done a damn good job coaching receivers over the years. He can handle it.

Just my thoughts.

One last thing.....if you think Watson is going to stay around much longer....think again.

I see what you are saying however how many of the coaches under T.O. or Frank stuck around after being offered a D-1 Head Coaching job? Aren’t Samuels and Steele the only ones that were offered and they both bolted? Also how many other teams were knocking on Dan Young’s door? Darlington and McBride didn’t really become “Hot” commodities until the 90’s and by then were pretty old. The only ones that I have ever seen any thing about them staying despite being offered “better” jobs are possibly Milt and Brown.

I think the days of staffs staying together, especially successful ones, are gone. It is a nice thought but I just don’t think it goes with the current state of college football. It is nice to think that it will happen but unless teams start paying their assistants like Texas does when something comes along for more pay and is a step up coaches will leave. Can anyone really blame them either? I would bolt my current employer if I was offered more money and more control, especially if it was a place I had ties to.

As far as the Watson comment, I think he will only leave if he is offered a Head Coaching spot in a BCS conference. He isn’t going to go to just any school if you ask me. If his offense keep putting up stats like they have this year the schools will come a calling.

You could also say that the young defensive coaches probably aren’t going to stick around either. You can’t tell me that those two will be contempt on just being position coaches their whole careers. I see Barney, Brown, Sanders, and Carl as the only ones in the bunch that are probably here for the long haul. Although Sanders may leave if he is given the chance to run a defense again, that is the only one I see of those four that may leave. Beck, Watson, Gilmore, Ekeler, Papushis will all leave for positions that are a step up from what they are doing now. IMO

 
Would Wyoming possibly consider a HC in the Northeast who has turned a losing program around? You know, that Gill guy?

I think schools are required, as per NCAA rules, to interview a certain # of Afro Americans for any available coaching positions. I could be wrong there.

Good luck with having coaching stability. I think BO might stick around for the duration. If someday Ohio St came calling I think he'd pull a Les Miles and say, 'thanks, but no thanks'. I think Bo wants to be here.

Barney Cotton wants to be at NE as well. As for the rest, I'm sure they would go to an opportunity that helped them further their coaching careers. Watson, yes, probably won't be around for too much longer. He's prime HC material and I'm sure that's what he wants.

Just alot more transition in CFB these days effecting all schools.

Stan Drayton was almost hired by Bo last season when Beck was brought in. With Fulmer retiring at Tennessee, and if Gilmore is hired at Wyoming, I would love to see Bo hire S. Drayton. That guy had recruited many of Tennesses' star commitment and J. Giles was going to UT because of him. Giles is visiting NU this week, maybe they get reunited-one can hope. Drayton is a great recruiter.

On top of that, Beck was the Passing Game Coordinator at KU before coming to NU. I also think he coached the receivers, don't hold me to that, so I think he could "handle" that if needed. Not sure you go wrong either way, but moving Beck from RB Coach does open the slot for Stan Drayton as mentioned.

Funny, there were peeps that wanted Glenn for the NE job last year. I was like, "NO WAY!!!" :thumbs
 
I would be surprised if Watson left us for a head coaching job. You all remember last year when Nick Saban wanted him to go to Alabama for the Offensive Coordinator position and Watson turned it down and look at where Alabama is at now.

I know it's a Head Coaching job but I think Watson loves being at Nebraska and is committed to Coach Pelini and Tom Osborne. I think Watson will be here come next season and I think that we should give him a raise.

I for one is rooting for Gilmore to get this job. Don't get me wrong, I think Coach Gilmore has done a great job for the Husker staff. But it always reflects good things of a head coach and program when assistants are granted head coaching jobs at D-1 programs.
