Give Us a Hand

The man was John Bobbit, searching for his 'stones' that were chopped off by his wife, Loraine. John came close to getting them when Loraine chopped off his hand as well.

Loraine, animal, close enough.

These last two have been too tough for me. :(

No worries, this one was supposed to be a little tougher...

The man was a diver diving on a shipwreck expecting to find jewels in a safe. Upon opening the safe, all he found was a hand severed by the original thief who had it removed when the ship went down and the in-rushing water slammed the safe door closed.

Was the hand in:

A clamshell?

A shark's stomach?

A safe?

A treasure chest?

Was the hand severed:

By a knife?

By an animal?

By being torn off?

A diver dives to a giant clam looking for pearls. Upon opening the clam, he finds a severed hand left by a previous diver. The previous diver's hand was caught when the clamshell closed, and rather than risk drowning, the diver severed his own hand to free himself.

A man searching for precious stones didn't find any but found a severed human hand instead. What had happened?
