I recall us doing it several times, actually, though I can't specifically name any years and teams. Two reasons I recall for this:
1. I worked in radio in Omaha at the time and was a big fan then of course. The games we did this for were typically HUGE games that were a) Closer than 4 points with less than 4 minutes to go, and us on the losing side with a cool comeback; or b) games that were guaranteed to decide whether we played for a NCG, late in the season, against another ranked juggernaut. So, imagine Colorado, ranked 2, NU ranked 1, in the Thanksgiving game. Those are the types of games. And I thought, at the time, it was somewhat justified, even if I cringed a little bit too.
2. I recall TO specifically discussing this publicly and asking the crowd to NOT do so. In typical TO fashion, he dryly asked if the fans knew that each goalpost cost 25k or 50k to replace each time it happened. And whether the fans thought the school just happened to have a new set sitting around somewhere for each time it occurred, ready to install for the next game. I believe the AD started greasing the poles and that effectively ended the practice (though some people still tried). And I might recall a minor injury or two related to tearing them down. I am not sure, but do not think, we ever installed the "bend but don't break" hinged posts that came into use around then.
