Good job locking the only discussion on sexism

No, it wasn't. It was neither of those. It did not get locked because we were having discussion on some racism. It did not get locked because people were asked to cool down and they didn't - in fact, people did not need to cool down at all.

The only thing wrong with the topic was some people PM'd each other. And some people did reports after a mod told them to.

To try to use everything that has happened as evidence that anything resembling a significant portion of the board is against you simply because you are female is as stereotypical of an attitude as the attitude  you are accusing others of having about sexism.

I think the mods didn't think the topic was worthwhile enough to bother with and therefore locked it. I didn't call anyone sexist. A forum that allows something like this to happen is a pretty damn sexist environment, though.

I've stated, in this thread itself, that the topic was going great. That should say to you that I think the opposite - that a huge majority of the forum is not sexist. I'm talking about a very small number of people here, who I did not call sexist. I think what was done was really stupid and uncalled for, and digging in is also stupid and uncalled for, especially given comments by other people who were involved in the topic. I didn't say anyone was against me. I actually think the opposite of that for the most part.

Um, no, none of those statements were contradictory. The fact some people sent some PM's doesn't mean the topic was heated. I've complained about posts and topics before and the mods did nothing, probably because I was overreacting. It probably happens here all the time. It doesn't mean the topic should get locked, and this is a special circumstance.

If you're talking about sidetracks - I've seen threads split dozens of times, but again that wasn't done here, and no one has even mentioned that having been a problem with that topic. No one has said they gave a crap.

It would be nice if everyone would contribute to whatever discussion is at hand in a polite and civil manner.  But that's not reality.  If we only allowed people to post here who have the personality of June Cleaver it would be a pretty lonely place.  That's not making excuses for anyone.  That's dealing with the reality of the internet.  And that is especially true in the P&R forum.  I would love to contribute more to those discussions.  But I spend way to much time on here anyway and the time every few months when I make the mistake of trying to have a discussion there quickly reminds me that most people aren't really there for the discussion.  They are only there to tell the other side how wrong they are.  Even if they're doing it in the nicest way possible.  So it's not worth my time.  Kudos to those of you who care enough to try to have a discussion but then don't be surprised if there are some off-the-wall crazies who are on the other side of the issue.  Spending your time worrying about that is worse than non-productive.

Like I've already said - BB and Landlord are both here saying they don't get why it was locked, and they with 3 others were the only ones posting in the 24 hours leading up to the time it was locked. The others were zoogs and teach (who was trolling which he does in most topics he posts in).

This is a case of a kneejerk reaction to getting some messages about a contentious topic and some reports after people were specifically told in that topic to make reports. You said you didn't read said topic and that's clear.

Re-read my post.  I said the topic was not locked because it was off topic. No one has said anything about that whatsoever, and it would have been another stupid reason, because no one in the topic expressed any care about it changing to that - and again BB/Landlord/zoogs who were all discussing it expressed no problem with a slight segue, and no attempt was made to split the topic which happens all the time here, nor was anyone at any point told to bring it back on topic. That wasn't the problem here to anyone involved and not one person has claimed it was a problem.


RE: Reports - Like I said before, by your own words you didn't look at the topic. Enhance posted halfway through that there had been no reports, and then he told people to start making reports if they saw anything.

I made 6-7 reports myself for the sole reason that Enhance told us to start reporting things - 4 about teach and 2 about the final locked post. Normally I ignore him because I don't want to annoy the mods, but Enhance specifically told us to report people. Teach was trolling so I reported him, and obviously the mod(s) agreed on that.

I've been told there were 11 reports in 24 hours - more than half were about 1 troll who trolls everywhere on the board - I don't know why I have to keep repeating this. Enhance's post was made a few days ago. I know there were multiple other reports made about teach. He trolls all over the board, it wasn't specific to that topic - there just so happened to be a lot of teach trolling posts in this topic. It was a direct reaction to Enhance's posts to report people - I would know, that's the only reason I did any reports before the topic was locked.

No, the reason it was locked is because it drew 11 reports in 24 hours and it was cluster of four people basically all complaining and reporting posts about each other.

Word for word this is what I was told. 4 of those reports were by me about teach and I sent 1 message about teach. All because a mod told us in that thread that we should report people. He was being a troll so I reported him, and he got suspended for trolling. I know out of the 11 mine were not the only reports about teach. You're basically letting a suspended troll take down the thread with him as he goes. I'm sure he'll be thrilled when he gets back from his suspension.

I'd rather be locked in a room with teach and Redux and forced to talk about Hilary Clinton than this having happened.

You say I think a "significant portion of the board is against you simply because you are female" just shows that things I'm actually saying aren't getting through. I've been saying this whole damn time we were having a good conversation and I think the topic was locked because the mods didn't find it important. Clearly I didn't think the people I was talking to were sexist, and I don't think not caring about the topic makes someone sexist. Everything after that is what makes me feel not welcome here. But not because of the general poster population.

I'm actually kind of annoyed he was suspended. I'd rather have 5 of him than this. He's going to laugh his a$$ off when he gets back though. I truly believe it never would have been locked without the reports about him. I know that wasn't the only reason but it sent it over the edge. After all, the "there were so many reports!" reason keeps being used.

So teach constantly trolls the thread gets warned, keeps doing it and nothing happens but the thread getting locked?  I'm sure teach, BB, Moiraine and LL all got reported by each other or other people, but only one of those was bad enough to warrant action. I read the whole thread except page 10, and while BB is an a$$ at times, he willing debates the topics and explains his position pretty well. Just as much as everyone else who is actually contributing. Moiraine used some choice words and personal attacks, but nothing that hasn't been allowed before, or simply warned. Landlord seemed pretty tame, and stuck to the debate with not much sidebar. So really, teach just trolling the thread is all I see. I didn't realize zoogs was no longer a mod understand why zoogs, who was participating in the discussion, didn't publicly moderate the thread. That looks like a conflict of interest, or mod stifling discussion. So why did it actually get locked? Because literally none of that material has ever got a P&R thread locked before.

I feel like that describes the majority of us. Especially me!

I disagree with most of you're political stuff, but you seem like a cool dude, and you are always willing to explain your position. So I respect that.
