Grammar Nazi Thread

Kiyoat Husker

All-Conference
I don't post in the BS forum often, but I thought this might be a good place for this thread.

The grammar Natzi in me wants to derail every thread with tangents, but the board-community member in me realizes how annoying and counter-productive that can be. I also suspect that I'm not the only GN here, so I thought this thread would be a good outlet for frustration.

FWIW I don't always use proper grammar either, but I try to.

So have at it: class is in session!

Too bad IA State Husker wasn't around for TuffTiger posts - his head would explode.

A tame example:

Ok, so Thursdaynight we play night game vs Mississippi Ste. I can still be soaked wet from the Thursday nite game against GBR some years ago. Gabbert got his knee or leg all bent up by Suh. It was monsoon all day and night. Some lights went out at Faurot. I had lot"s of beer"s,too.

But it was a good rivalist game I think. So I can think od that as I get ready for the Miss Ste. game, ok?

Pinkel is still coach and doin find.

TUffTiger
I don't really get my boxers in a twist over grammar except for: there, their and they're and to, too and two.

I know the proper usage, but sometime my fingers just do their own thing and my brain DGAF at that moment.

Thread title fixed, too.

Nah, TUff is pretty entertaining. I think we all have at least a handful of grammar errors that "get our boxers in a twist" You obviously have a couple.

Here's another one:

"suppose to" or "supposed to"

Not technically bad grammar, but incorrect sayings/idioms:

(These examples come from my mother-in-law)

"Nip it in the butt" - This should be "Nip it in the BUD", as in pruning plants. This makes a little more sense than biting someone in the rear, IMO.

Calling a hard-to-tame patch of hair that sticks up a "Colic" rather than the correct "Cow lick" - She still doesn't believe me on that one. I guess it just makes too much sense to use the name of an infant's disease for a hair problem.

Aw yea, this is my jam.

Class is in session -- and you, sir, have ended a sentence with a preposition!
Nailed again. I'm feeling a little out of my depth in this thread. I never said that I was a GOOD nazi. Just an irritated one. I DID ask for it, by making the thread, so I'll take my medicine.

I messed with the bull, ....

Not only does that violate the rule about ending a sentence with a proposition, it is redundant at best, completely superfluous at worst.

Gee, I LIKE this game!
