Great Perspective from Shatel

I just read that and I hope Bo stays he has the pices in place to have a great team and I hope he has the pacients(sorry my spelling is horrible) I want to see Bo here for the rest of his career and that he wins a ton here. GBR
The only way Pelini will get the job done is if he goes outside his normal reach and hire some quality coaches. The flip side of that is the new AD shelling out the coins to get them here. Without doing this, Pelini is short lived as a Husker head coach.

As for your spelling, when the red dotted line shows up under the word, that means is typed incorrectly. When you see the little red dotted line, place your cursor on the word, right click on your mouse and you see a list of correctly spelled words similar to your word. Once that happens, simply left click on the word you were trying to spell. Not all that hard.
Please explain to me how you have enough proper insight to determine that this current staff is not quality. Please. I beg of you. (Before doing so, realize this staff, at most-outside of Bo and Cotton-are less than 2 full seasons old).

Changes need to be made systematically and personell wize. I've come around to that belief after re-watching most games this year. Mostly on the defensive side of the ball. There will be no coaching changes whatsoever. There cant be. Bo has his guys. You can call them buddies. You can call them yes men or whatever crappy excuse you have for us not chasing down Mike Stoops before he drove OU's defense into the mud. We might as well get over the staff changes concept, cuz it just aint happening.

Wait, I take that back. I think one of the waterboys was a senior. N/M.

There will be at the very least 1 coaching change this offseason
Who do you think. I'm being serious here. I personally dont think there will be. If anything at all, it would be Cotton. He's the only one on the staff that's been givin a legitimate shot, and frankly the o-line has improved from year to year, as little of improvement as it is. Outside of him, I dont see how any of the coaches in their current positions can be givin a proper assessment yet. Let's face it, in 2011, with how many new coaches and a new conference, Bo basically had to set the reset button as if he was back to his first year. Everything he worked on and built and became accustomed to changed with going to the Big 10. He has all these new teams and coaches to prepare for. On top of that, he's trying to get accustomed to mostly a completely new staff himself. Do you realize that Bo and Barney Cotton are the only two coaches on the entire staff that were doing the same job or even here at all 2 years ago?

You sound adament that there will be a change and I'm curious who you think it'll be and what a possible replacement will be.

He doesn't know. He just says this crap to get attention. It may or may not be true, if it is, he will say I told ya so, if not, he well backpedal.

Cotton appears to be the obvious choice. We honestly need a QB coach and ST coach. Let Garrison try to man the ship at the OL. If he fails then we go out and get an OL coach next season.

Sidenote: thank you for being civil and discussing accountability. Really appreciate it. #GBR

LandLord is spanking people in this thread!!!!

I've come to the realization in the past few weeks that I really don't like speaking publically about men losing their jobs. Thus, my crusade against the media.

That being said, there are staff changes I would agree with here.

I think we need that OL coach right now. If Garrison has recruiting / player favorite / TE coaching value on this staff (and able to handle STs coaching would be a plus!), I think we gotta hang on to that, but give him the TE coaching role, so that we can pull in one of the best OL coaches in the nation. I'm not convinced we need a dedicated QBs coach. OCs often handle this role.

Barney, it sounds like he's well-connected and a great administrator, and that's been speculated for a while now that he may eventually do some kind of administrative work within the Athletic Dept.

I personally feel that a QB coach is needed. I understand that as of now we dont have the room for it, but I think room should be made. Watson was a qb coach and OC. Same with Beck now. But the qb coach part is probably moreso on an x's and o's standpoint. We need someone like a Joe Ganz that has played the position that understands the game speed movements that are made and needing the ability to be sound fundamentally. We need someone that can effectively teach techniques and not just where to go with the football, especially if we're gonna continue down this road of converting trememdous athletes into true dual thread qb's within this system. I think this would aid Beck bigtime, for then he could really focus on overall gameplanning and maybe be able to stick his nose in preparation of the other offensive positions.

As far as a special teams coach goes, our so-called special teams coach is more of a figure head than anything and does not solely decide on strategy and personell. Those are handled as a group by all the coaches. This has been reiterated over and over by former and current players, as well as coaches. Special teams overall is a group effort coaching wize. Too much stock is put into the position of special teams coach.

I am not that disappointed with the OL. NU had good rushing stats with 3 walk on starters.

Agree. Is this the start of a new pipeline?

Could be. But in order to do that, we have to re-establish the connection and pride with the in-state kids. We have make this program something that the young men of this state want to strive starting at 7, 8, 9, years old to be a part of. Kid's that bust their a$$ in junior high and high school and gain that extra 40 pounds in the weight room because they see the opportunity. That pride and connection was over-utilized by Solich, and then completely lost by Callahan. Bo has done a nice job in my mind of re-establishing it. But there has to be a balance. Osborne had that. Bo's still looking for it. You sure the hell can't write off all in-state talent as not good enough as Callahan did though.

I would also like to see NU start recruiting Samoans again for OL & DL.
