Griddle Me This

Okay, the Blackstone is getting a little bit annoying to clean, not horrible but annoying enough that a Weber Slate might be in my future.

Also, two and three propane tanks???  Who are you guys, the prince of Qatar
Why yes, yes I am. Well, technically a sultan but I digress. Would you like a $400M 747?

What is there to “clean” on your Blackstone? I haven’t had to clean anything on mine yet. I’ve only used it about a dozen times. In fact just used it this last weekend for the first time this year and I was a little surprised it wasn’t a mess after sitting out all winter.  I do have a lid and cover. Basically just had to wipe it down with some paper towels. When shutting it down, I always give it a squirt of water and scrape it down and then apply a thin coat of oil. I had one small rust spot on the back lip but it seems to stay properly seasoned. But I also haven’t used as much as I’d like to so that may make a difference.

I don't have the hard cover and that seems to make a difference.

I have just been getting a lot of rust spots but really that is just at the start of griddle season.

Maybe I am just being a baby about it.

This summer I am sure I will get bored and give it a crazy deep clean and reasoning.

I was really diligent in seasoning it originally but it seemed like I couldn’t get the vertical edges on the sides and rear hot enough. Those are the areas that seem to have a couple rust spots. When it comes time to redo it completely, I may try using a torch on the edges. Because the 98% of it that did get done right sure seems to hold up very well.

Did some turkey bacon & guac sandwiches on the Blackstone today. Griddled some awesome cheddar and jalapeño sourdough for the bread and added some american cheese. Also did the bacon on the griddle. Just added the peppered turkey and homemade guac cold. It was really good.

The star was the sourdough bread though. There’s a new bakery in town and it is going to be the death of me. She has multiple variations of sourdough every day but on Fridays she also does pecan sticky buns that are incredible. Good bread is definitely a weakness of mine.
